I have a 2001 Toyota Avalon. Out of nowhere, the right front caliper wouldn't release and started getting very hot. I checked the caliper and tried to push in the piston and it wouldn't move. I replaced the caliper. That didn't help. So I replaced the brake hose. Did not help. It kept getting hot. I'm not driving it now. With a new caliper and new hose I am at a loss as to what is wrong and what to try next. I am a decent mechanic having worked on a variety of cars for over 50 years. I'm stumped.

So with the new caliper the piston wouldn't push in as well? How about the caliper pins? Do those move freely?

With a new hose and caliper, I would think the problem is upstream from there. Which can mean the ABS module or the master cylinder. How's the rear left caliper? Does that piston push in fine or is it also stuck? If stuck I'd guess master cylinder (where both come back to the same circuit). Has the MC been replaced before? Then the booster push rod clearance needs to be checked. And if FR is stick and RL isn't stuck might be ABS module as they're on different circuits.

The right front is okay. I believe that it is upstream on the left side. I know the new caliper is not the problem as I can push the piston in when I open the bleeder. I guess the new hose is okay. I haven't changed the master cylinder or anything on the abs. How is just one caliper sticking? Is there a chance that the metal line is blocked? What is the block called that the metal line goes into? Could that have blockage in it? I definitely appreciate the help. P.s. Am I looking at a lot of money to fix this.

Make sure the caliper mounting bracket is not stuck on the slide pins. They’re not part of the caliper, so it’s not replaced with the new caliper.

The last 4or5 calipers that I've purchased you have to replace the caliper and bracket. You have to return the caliper and the bracket as a core return. The caliper was new so the pins and slides were pre lubed. I really appreciate the help. This forum has been a world of help in the past.
