If you push the shiftlock release button does it allow it to move?
yea get a screw driver. pry up the plastic cover by ur shifter. push the button in that is under the plastic cover and shift it. that should help you be able to shift it.

yup

got the shift lock to get it out of park and it now works, sort of...brake lights are out, however, indicating some wiring problem...not the fuse, already replaced that...
thanks for your time

Well the brake switch is most likely bad then. I'm not sure exactly how the system works, but you have to depress the brake to shift it unless that button is depressed. If it wont shift and the brake lights aren't working, I'm assuming the a brake switch is bad. It should be connected to the brake pedal under the dash.
