I bought some subs today(L7) and I was wondering if I could use the stock head unit and what else I need.

Obviously I already have the speaker wire, amp, RCAs.

Thanks guys!

you need a remote for your amp to turn on. Line out converter to get rca's since the factory unit does not have rca output, the obvious box, speaker wire, amp kit.

What you want to do is a buy a "Line out converter". That will allow you use rca's since the factory deck doesnt have the output. You just need to tap into your speaker wire for a signal. So you can connect it to your left and right rear speaker. Once you connect your line out converter you can connet the rca's from the line out converter to your amplifier. Now you need to run a pwr cable from the battery to your amp and ground it. And connect your sub to the amp. Now your amp has power but it wont know when to turn on so your going to need a remote wire. The easiest is to tap into a fuse that will turn on when the ignition is on. I can tell you which fuse to use if you want. Now your subwoofer should work with your factory head unit. ta dah
If you have aim, I would appreciate it if you im'd me..

my sn is KC BRIGADE

it'll be much easier
There was another thread here where someone used LOC to add a sub and amp. He said that the LOC had a remote lead triggered when it received speaker signal.
im assuming they are the kicker solo barics? what size you got?

exactly right.just like i did mine.
one of the best line out converters out in the market is the JL clean sweep.
it will definitely transfer the signals and power to your wiring and sub better than just a generic line out converter.
sorry to dig this up from the grave but instead of making a new thread i figure i will add to this one.

I have the JBL NAV system in my gen 6 and I want to add an Inifnity Basslink powered sub to the stock system. This is how i think the stock system is wired up (i havent actaully looked at it yet) NAV headunit --> Stock JBL Amp --> Speakers.

If that is the case wouldn't the lines going to the amp be already at "low level"?

Couldn't I just then splice into the pre-amp lines and remote and run it from there to the powered sub?
Hey, how do you take off the headunit? What tools are best and where do you start from? I don't want to scratch anything up.
I just used a flathead screwdriver and a bunch of tape. You have to start at the parking brake lever.
So how is it going to sound using the stock head unit? I did this in the past with my accord and it sounded like crap. there was way to much bass and I wasnt able to control it so I got an aftermarket unit and sounded alot better.
^ you could SORTA control it with the BASS control on the deck. But it also controls the bass through out the other speakers also. If the bass is too hign than turn your gains down
