I want to add a sub for a little more bass.
I have read around on the forum for ideas to install under the rear seat in the compartment. One that looked good was building a custom box where the compartment is for subs. I like this idea and I was thinking about either an 8 inch or 10 inch sub for the one box.

Another post said they just built a wood mount for the sub and placed it over the compartment hole. I don't think this idea would work very well because I still want to be able to use the rear seat and the compartment isn't completely sealed. Could brackets or something similar be put over the top of the sub to allow the seat to rest on it? also could a sound deadener line the compartment to make it somewhat closed off for this to work?

I have a couple brands in mind for the sub and amp but any direction for what is good would be greatly appreciated.

How much bump does the sub and amp combo put out? and can you feel it a lot being directly under the drivers seat?

If you want to feel it in yer seat, try installing some shakers on the seat. ;)

I converted my Subpac M1 and installed it on my driver's seat. Changes the game immensely! ;)

It sounds very good. Its not obnoxiously loud or anything like that. You can feel it but not that much. It really fills out the sound nicely. My whole system sounds great now. Crystal clear highs and mids and nice deep bass. I am running the rest off of the alpine head unit amp. No plans for changing that. But the sound deadening and the upgrades it sounds awesome! Would do it again for sure, especially for the cheap price!

So today I decided to just go ahead and start making the box and slowly figure out the sub and amp setup based on what size of box I can get.
So I pull of the trim above the rear seat backrest and then was able to unbolt that part and pull it out. Next I unbolted the flip-up seats and removes those. Then pulled the plastic ring around the compartment covers off and was able to then pull the carpet back. Then I unbolted the compartment top so the whole is exposed and that's where I stopped.
Next step is to take some measurements and figure out a box design and also to cut off the jack mounts.

Awesome! Look forward to seeing how this goes. I want to put subs in the same spot in mine. Are you doing an amp for the mids? If you are, where did you put it?
On my truck my factory head unit went out so I installed an aftermarket head unit and when I did it came with a cable that bypassed the factory amp. The speakers get enough power and sound from the new head unit alone and the new head unit it will make it easier to install the sub amp. The sub amp will go under the passenger seat.

Sorry for the lack of updates I got busy with school work as I am a full time college student at Texas A&M.
I picked up my sub yesterday, I got a kicker comp 10 that runs at 150 rms watt at 4 ohms. I ordered a used kenwood KAC-501 amp that runs 300 watt at 4 ohms so i should have plenty of power for the sub and the amp shouldn't overheat if all goes well. I ordered a wiring kit off amazon and made sure it is AWC standard. It came with 4 gauge power wire, a 100 amp fuse, RCA cable, and 16 gauge remote turn on wire. I separately ordered 14 gauge speaker wire.
I built a mock box out of cardboard to see how big I could get it, in the pictures that follow I labeled the pieces and I will list the dimensions (these might change slightly when I use the mdf wood) I did not build the top yet, i will make a cardboard top when i get the wood frame put together all the way and make sure it fits.
Piece 1: 25 in long x 6 in tall
Piece 2: 10 and 1/2 inch long x 6 inch tall and then 8 inch long x 5 and 1/2 inch tall
Piece 3: 6 inch long x 4 and 1/2 inch tall
Also I used an angle grinder to cut the jack stand and later I'll take a dremal to smooth it out Automotive exterior Wood Bumper Architecture Auto part
