why is it that when i jack the front wheel of my truck up on the bottom arm of the a-frame it actually lifts the truck rather than just compressing the suspension? Is it just because the shocks are stiff?

If your sway bar is on then it will prevent the a-arms from flexing seperate (to an extent) There is simply not enough force to twist the torsion bar enough.

If you want to flex it - Jack up the opposite sided rear tire and place a jackstand under it, then jack up the front tire.

p.s shocks have little or nothing to do with how hard it is to compress suspension :)
