My 16 son is picking up a 1987 2wd 22r, with only 80,000 miles on it. It's body is pretty beat up.
Well, today I ran across a 1989 4wd with a bad 3.0v6. Everything else is workable. I'm curious if replacing the v6 with the 22r is something that can be done without too many headaches? As far as mounts and mating up with the transmission in the 1989? Any help would be appreciated. thanks

The v6 r150f (5sp) transmission will not bolt up to the 22r. Same with engine mounts (you can buy ones that will fit though).

In short - it won't be THAT easy, buts its doable. If you really want to do it, find a transmission from a 89-95 22re 4x4, it should bolt up to the 22r. (I will let somebody else chime in on the 4cyl transmission)

Any transmission that bolts to a 20R/22R/RE will interchange. The W56 was used in '86+ p/u's and 4Runners.
