Flux, are you talkin about one like this in the lower right hand corner? not my pic, but when i got my PIAA lights they had this switch and i squeezed into the hole just like this one. If this is the switch you are talking about then you just have to push it in the and not worry about and cutting or dremeling. :)

No, they do not fit. The PIAA switch for the 525's are a two button setup much larger than the switch in that picture. You can however unplug the PIAA switch and run the wire to a three way (on-off-on) switch that does fit in the sto blank location. That is how I am doing mine.

I guess the 2-button setup is needed for the dual beams. Where are you getting your three way switch from? If I have to order a switch for the 525's, I might as well order a second one for the 1500 with a contact switch so that I can set it up to be on all the time, off, or on only when I open up the tailgate.

I installed the 525s a couple weeks ago and just dremeled out a corner of one of the dummy switches to run the wire through and mounted the PIAA switch to the dash directly to the right of the dummy switches. Looks pretty clean, but I will eventually order a rocker switch from http://www.4x4mods.com/. These swithces fit into the stock dummy holes with a little dremelling of the lip inside the spaces for the dummy switches. You'll want to get the DPDT RS43P which is a non-momentary On/Off/On switch. You can use this switch to control the PIAAs HIGH/OFF/LOW. I already have one of these to control the bed lights I installed On/Off/Tailgate. Here's a picture of PBs from another thread.

Did you get the 5250 or the 5251? I'm not entirely clear on the difference between the two.

I'm installing the PIAA 1500 lights in my bed with the tailgate pin switch next week. I decided I liked the look of the rocker switches from 4x4mods anyway, so I went ahead and bought a three-way for the bed lights and one for the 525's, even though I haven't ordered the 525's yet.

Which lights did you install in your bed? If the PIAA's, what did adding the pin switch entail? Did you simply run the grounds to the pin switch?

Thanks for the input!

I got the 5250s which have the Clear High and the Plasma Ion (Yellowish) Low.
The Plasma Ion is great for fog and teh Clear High really lights up the road.

With the 5251s both high & low beams are Plasma Ions. PB has them so you can ask him what he thinks of them.

As for the bed lights, I picked up a $25 set of fog lights from Pepboys which was plenty of light. There is a great writeup by PB on this in the DIY post. The only thing I did differently was I did not cut the cubby and insert the light. I just mounted the light with the Bracket going through the top of the cubby so I can angle them up/down & from the front of the bed to the back. For the wiring, It doesn't matter which lights you are using.

Since the Doorpin switch controls the ground, you must use the Rocker switch to control whether it grounds to the frame, tailgate doorpin switch, or not at all. So run a power wire from the battery through an inline fuse and split it to the power side of both the lights. Run a ground wire from each light and splice them together into one wire and run it to the switch's middle pin. Then run a ground wire from one of the the switch's pins to the frame. Run another ground wire from the switch to the self-grounding doorpin switch in the tailgate.

I picked up a factory fog lamp switch online from the toyotaparts and wired the PIAA lamps into that. The OEM look, I feel, is just cleaner and classy.
Can't do this with the 525s as they are dual beams (Fog & Driving), unless you somehow tied the lights into the headlight power to control driving & fog with your high beams/low beams. I opted not to do this so I can run driving lights or fog lights whenever I wanted.

jdl8r, because the 525's are dual beams you need a three-way switch. The factory fog light switch is only on-off.

SR5-2006, awesome reply! I was a little confused reading this post from Pb in his DIY thread, but this picture you posted made it all click in my head. I'm assuming you used an inline fuse on the + wire. Did you use a relay?

Flux,
After reading PBs post you linked, I remembered that I did in fact split the power to both lights and spliced the two grounds together instead of running through the first light. I think you can do it either way but I edited my post above anyway.

I used an inline fuse on the positive lead from the battery. (edited previous post)
Wasted a day trying to figure out how to use a relay with no luck. Spoke with PB and he advised me that there was no need to use one so I went without.

The PIAA switch is kinda goofy. It doesn't fit anywhere good. I cut the wiring going to the switch. There are 4 wires. I forget what colors they are. You'll just have to use a volt meter to figure it out. One wire is ground which lets the switch LEDs light up. One is 12v+ power in. One goes to the low beams 12v+ relay. One goes to the high beams 12v+ relay. I used a 3 position switch from www.4x4mods.com . On/Off/On. DPDT. A SPDT will work too.

Your edits make it more clear, but I figured that's what you meant anyway.

How many watts were the fog lights that you bought? 55? If so, that's about 4.6 amps of current. If you and Pb haven't had any problems, I guess that means that the 4x4mods rocker switch can handle that much current.
The PIAA lights come with dual relays which handle the current that powers the lights. The switch in the cab only activates the relays, which pulls very little current. The switches from 4x4mods should always be used with a relay. They can't handle high current.

Grrrr... Wiring up the lights with relays and an on/off switch is easy enough, as is wiring the lights up with a three-way switch and a pin switch without a relay. For the life of me I can't figure out how I would do the three way switch and pin switch with the relay. Ridiculously frustrating.

Pb, I'm confused on how to connect the switch to the ground side with the relay. Do you have a wiring diagram or can you briefly tell me which wires connect to the switch and what you use to trigger the relay?

The switch would activate the positive side on the relay. On a standard Bosch style relay #85 would connect to chassis ground. #86 would be the 12v+ coming from the switch. And then of course #30 would be connected to the battery. #87 would go out to the lights.

If you have dual beam headlights then you would have to use two relays. One for high beam. One for Low beam.
