Taco manual locking Hubs

The manual locking hub option was available on the 95.5 - 98 tacomas, almost phased out by 99, but I'v heard of them still being available even in 2000. I was told the hubs will not fit my 2001. My question is, can any one tell me why? Is it just the CV axels that are different, or is the differential and steering nuckles/brake rotors also different?
