Hello. I have an 82 pickup with 22r engine. I changed the thermostat and water pump. I flushed the radiator. The gauge is still reading at high temperature. I live in fl. What is going on? Is it a sensor issue or what?

Radiator/radiator cap/fan clutch

Start with the cheapest which would be a new radiator cap. Next would be the fan clutch, then the radiator.

How does it overheat? Overheating on the freeway is usually a plugged radiator. Low speed overheating is usually a bad fan clutch.

if the radiator was pluggedit would overheat all the time, you need the radiator at all times all speeds regardless

same with the waterpump if its going out then it iwll overheat all the time

when its hot make sure the system is under pressure, if you squeeze a hose when its hot it should be underpressue you should not be able to squeeze it in

if you can then you either have a junk rad cap, or an internal or external leak

the rad should be evenly the same tempa ll over it

if it has hot or cold spots or one side is hot and the other alot cooler then something is very wrong

the fan should be able to suck enough air through the rad to be able to feel it out in front of the radiator, it should feel like cold air binig sucked into the front of the radiator

if not then something is wrong

broken shroud, bad fan clutch

etc

when the truck overheats will tell you/us alot

unless its doing it at all speeds all the time

good luck

Your radiator can be plugged enough that it will work ok at lower speeds, but at higher speeds like on the freeway it will over heat.
