just installed a chinese 2din nav/dvd/stereo/backup camera unit in my 06 with the antenna in the rear window afaik and the FM works great but the AM is very weak. love talk radio.

my 94 has the power antenna in the fender and the same unit in that car works great so I'm guessing adding a power antenna to my 06 would fix this but does anyone have any other suggestions first?
thanks

I've heard after upgrading to an aftermarket headunit, the AM or / and FM reception is worst. Probably in source that the OEM ones usually have two attenna like plugs in the rear of the head unit. Not sure what the fix is though.

For me I never noticed when I upgrade since I never listen to the radio and if I do it is usually FM only.

I've also noticed degraded FM reception after changing head units. My 02 has the 2 antenna connections,(I have heard the larger one is for FM and the smaller one is for AM) I just used the larger one that fit the radio. Some have said there is an antenna amplifier in the rear sail panel but I can't find it. I even replace the entire ant. cable from the radio to the rear grid. my 02 does not have the ant. amp. The wiring diagrams in the FSM do not show one either. I wonder if you were to splice the larger and smaller connections together would that help? Has anyone heard of some kind of 2 into 1 adapter for this situation?

actually, i have the Y adapter that takes the big and small antenna male connections and outputs that to 1 big male connection that fits into these radios. i used that on my 2001 sienna that had the 2 antennas.
on my 06, it only has the big/standard antenna male connection so that's not the problem. also, i did connect the blue 12vdc power antenna wire so if there's an amp, (which i haven't found either), it would get powered, so that's not it either. i think this radio just isn't as sensitive on the AM band as the OEM fujitsu 10, which doesn't surprise me cause i'm sure the oem radio costed much more when it was new than this chinese do it all unit does.
i've see where they sell amplifiers or boosters but not sure if any of them work, especially for AM.
thanks for the replies.

I tried "the google" but it seems all I find have the same standard size on the female end. The cables I have are 1 standard and one smaller size. But if I look long enough I just may find one. If worse comes to worse I guess I can just solder them together myself, although my last attempt at that ended badly. :O
