Hi guys,

Well we did our first road trip from Montreal, QC, to Oakville, Ont. Adding a couple short trips while there we added about 1460 Kms in total.
The drive was ever so comfortable on the 401 (7 hours); music, from CDs and iPod through AUX, sounded great and the various holders provided welcome space to store stuff.
Storage space was more than plenty considering I tossed in my manual wheelchair and am damn glad I've not gone with a minivan! ;) Everything just worked and I did not perceive the rattling the some fellow HL-owners are hearing.

Alas the excitement/satisfaction was marred on our return trip home. Not 10 minutes after leaving my bro's place, the HL is hit from behind by a corolla :(
Trying not to let the emotion take over I couldn't help feel that my new HL was now..how shall I put this..less new? Fortunately we and the corolla were stopped at a red light; the driver thought the HL would advance quickly upon the green light and that's when she slammed her car into our HL.

No damage..the lower bumper is slightly scuffed but no cracks, dents, fissures.
This said, do you guys suggest we take the HL in for an inspection?

Despite all this, the HL is one solid and comfy suv.

Yeap

And why live with a scuffed bumper??

Don't know how insurance works in Canada (is it no fault and your insurance pays for your car and her insurance pays for her's or does her insurance pay for your damages) but a slight scuff in the Seattle area would cost you around $400 US to get fixed.

As summerwind suggested, I think it's worth getting checked out.

If you are hit from behind, it's almost always the other persons fault.
Unless 'no fault' comes into play. Otherwise, you could make a claim, pay any deductible, and then your company goes after the other party to get your deductible back.

Personally, I wouldn't put up with any 'scuffs', if they weren't my fault, but that's just me.
Good luck and I'm glad you weren't injured.

Thanks for you input guys.
I've booked an appt. with the dealership for Friday.
summerwind, here in Quebec it is indeed no-fault thus my insurer would pick up the tab if need be.

Sorry to hear...I know how you feel. I was up at skiing this past weekend at Windham NY skiing and my Highlander was hit on the front passnenger side corner, scuffed, scratched, and crack the bottom portion of the bumper where the foglight is, the frames around the foglights were popped out. And this happened in the damn parking lot, with no one accountable. I just can't stand it, can't have a nice car in this world!

Don't want to take away from your post, but I just want to sympathize with what happened to you. And I feel exactly the same.

I had a '92 Dodge Grand Caravan that was hit in the rear in a very similar way one week after I bought it brand new with only 12 miles on it. Stopped at light on slight downward hill when other driver "claimed" that his brakes failed. No real visible damage, but since it was brand new, I took it to the dealer anyway. The repair receipt showed replacement of the material behind the bumper, and a new coat of that EXPENSIVE flexible paint to the tune of just over $600.00 - 1992 dollars! Sure the dealer may have made a little money, but the bottom line... it doesn't have to be visible to be expensive, especially when it comes to bumpers! Think about all those 3 & 5 mph crash tests that bumpers are put through when they end up costing high dollar repairs.
