Symptom - after starting the car, applying the brake at very low speed engages the ABS for no reason. Then after driving the car for a few minutes at higher speed turns ABS light on which disables the ABS and stays like that until the car is stopped and parked with engine off. And when the car is started again and driven these things repeat.

This happened at the worst time - a few days before the Ontario G2 highway driving test of my daughter and during the long Christmas and Boxing days long weekend. The requirements for the driving test are vague and based on the input from others on the web it seems if the ABS light is on the car may not be allowed for the test. The driving test center is closed until a day before the test and we can't postpone it without losing the fees for it. All Toyota dealership centers are also closed and I had to go to a local mechanic who diagnosed the problem - ABS control module needs to be replaced and the mechanic also said this part is no longer manufactured and the only option is scrap yeard. I searched online and can't find it in any parts store. Only RockAuto have it listed but out of stock. I found ABS control modules on eBay but only one for Avalon 95 and from a first time seller who doesn't have any record of reputation.

I will greatly appreciate any input and advice

When my 1998 Avalon had the ABS and Trax lights come on It was always when there was suddenly a big electrical draw, like when I turned on the Rear window defrost or AC etc. It would always reset when I turned the motor off and restart it. I knew there was something due to voltage. Even though the car showed good volts at the battery and turned over well, I did clean electrical connections and put a new battery in, but the ABS light would come on occasionally. It was not until my alternator started to make noise due to being original and a bad bearing.
Once I replaced the alternator ( It had a badly worn surface where the brush contact the stator) That the ABS trouble was finally fixed.. SO the cheap fix might be voltage and a new battery and or alternator might fix you up. I have not had the light come on in 2000 miles!
