I had to go to Scranton PA from Orange county NY last night. I thought I left early enough to beat the storm but I was wrong. At one point on route 84 in the Pocono's I actually had to stop right in the middle of the road. It was a pure white out. I've never been in on before and it came on so damn quick it scared the shit out of me. I was doing about 30 MPH and then I couldnt see a frickin thing.

Now for the best part. This was my first all highway trip in my truck since I bought it. I had a 55" TV in the back ( for half the trip) and 4 Wheel drive was on the whole way. It looks like I got about 19 MPG. Finally, I got some Milage out of this truck I'm happy with. All in all the Taco did awsome. 50 mile an hour winds and everything.

Hey, I have driven those same road through the Pocono Mountains up there. Rte 84 into CT heading home from trips down to VA( would go to places in PA on the way home ). Better make sure you gas up before heading in because it is a LONG way between gas stations at least heading North.

One year coming home in April we get up in there and got hit by an early spring snow storm. I have driven through EXACTLY what you were talking about. You can NOT see 10 feet in front of you. The trip I am talking about was so bad I actually shut the headlights off and drove with just the fog lights. HL's made so much glare and reflection you couldn't see diddley.

Did you see any deer? I know that night they were all over the road. Going for the salt or something? Almost hit like 20. 25-30 MPH was the best we could do and it took forever to get through and come down out of the snow on the other side.

At least you had a 4X4. I was driving my friends 81 Olds Cutlass that ahd almost bald tires. Was not fun. :ugh3:

I've driven in those conditions before, more often than I cared for, and although they say you're not supposed to stop, I could never do that. I just sat in the middle of the road hoping no one was close behind me. I'd rather be hit than hit someone and there's no way anyone's going fast in those conditions, but still, it's a weird feeling, no visibility and you're in the middle of a 55 MPH road, perhaps in broad daylight (when visibility returns). 19 MPG is awesome in 4WD!

Last night was awful for driving, it must have been 55 degrees during the day and dropped to 10 degrees at night. I hear ya on driving in whiteout conditions that sucks.

Yeah it was pretty beat. I couldnt even see the front of my hood. Just white. It sucked just sitting there because I know there were cars not to far behind but I could not see them and they sure as hell couldnt see me. Just put the hazzards on and waited for the wind to die down a bit. The funny part is we only got like 4 inches of snow. You think with conditions like that there would be like 2 feet.

Any way I cant wait for the temp to rise cause my truck is TRASHED. I have sooooooooo much ice built up all over the thing from the 200 mile trip.

I have no only driven in those conditions, but have worked in them many times. I also live in the area that you mention. Lords Valley. Pa.. This streatch of Rt.84 can be very dangerous.
Nice area though. I was thinking about moving over that way but my commute to work would pretty much blow.

Try driving Mosquito Pass near Alma, CO. Oh yeah, that ain't out east. Just trying to make you jealous, but seriously take your Tacoma over that one for a fun 'test' of the rig.
