After much thought I just ordered a Grom USB Adapter/Interface. Thanks to member Boost Junky. Grom USB Interface It should allow me to use my ipod or a usb card or stick to play music in my truck all through the radio controls. I am sick of messing with the FM transmitter that I have.

Seriously, that looks ridiculously easy. The thing I don't get is what he was controlling in the end. The unit said "CD 1-1" or whatever, as if it were controlling a changer. Any ideas on what that was all about?

The stereo believes it is selecting a disc changer but all it is doing is accessing the GROM adapter and playing whatever source you have connected to it.

OK, I for some reason thought it displayed the iPod info on the screen. Now I get it.

It says you need to pay $20 for the iPod cable. Is this a proprietary cable, or just a regular iPod cable? The site doesn't seem to explain.

You should be able to use the cable that came with the ipod to sync it to your PC (or MAC if that is your fancy). The GROM unit uses a USB port just like your PC.

EDIT: It does however look like they have a proprietary cable that can be used to connect the ipod if you wish. If you don't want to spend the extra $20 you should be able to connect it through the USB port, but it may affect your ability to control the device from the stereo and charge it from the adapter.

Yes, it does! But, if I were looking for an OEM integration solution (I am not because I yanked my factory stereo less than a month after purchasing my truck), the only thing that would bother me about this adapter is that is doesn't display track names and artists from the Ipod (or USB source), but it beats the heck out of an FM transmitter!!!!!!

Keep us posted Dark_Taco! I am interested to read your review after install!

I sacked up and bought the $20 cable.....It's proprietary from my understanding and figured I could use the USB but didn't want to chance... and pay double shipping. I'll let you know how it goes.

I may finally work out an ipod solution soon. I got a new ipod about a month ago and the Taco is feeling a little neglected.

I used an FM transmitter for all of about thirty seconds in the walmart parking lot shortly after purchasing my truck. It sounded like crap so I marched right back in and returned it. Went home and ordered my stereo and dash kit.

I can't stand those things. They do the job in a pinch, but they do it pretty horribly. I'm really hoping that the modulator gets better sound (it's wired to the stereo via the antenna). It was $26, so if it sucks, oh well.

If yours turns out well, that may be my next move. Either that, or a new head unit.

When using my Grom interface from the IPOD, it will only display track info on the newer IPODs. And then I have to do something like select disk 2 from the changer or something like that.

I'm going to have to look into the USB interface, see if I can add a cable to my unit to let it play right off a USB stick. Had a rental that had that capability, kinda slick, but not fantastic, but beats leaving the ipod in the truck all the time. No, would have to buy a new unit to get USB direct. Oh well, maybe the next car.....

Available to me I have a touch, a fat short nano (found that one on bike path) and an older 30gig video. I know the touch will probably show but what about the other two. I wouldn't mind leaving the nano in the truck all the time...hell I found it in the bushes.

FYI GROM tech support just gave me this.

With the TEXT button you will have full text for MP3 files, partial text for WMA and no text for AAC or OGG files.
Ipod text will appear as well.
