Thermostate/temp sensor?

Whats the difference between the thermostate and the temp sensor? I think I recognize the temp sensor but if I wanted to replace the thermostate, where is that located?

the thermostat is in the thermostat houseing (the meal peice where the upper rad hose goes into the motor). 2 12mm bolts i believe.

Thanks. Im a dummy. I should of known that. I took all that stuff off when I replaced the head gasket. Dum dum dum dum. haha.

i changed thermostat. my temperture guage is finally higher than what it used to be. it would only go up like a 1/4 inch before now it like doulbles that. so that was the problem.

Just like that where is it placed on the gage. Mine is just right next to the temp sign.
