thinking of selling my truk

hello all,

i have a 2004 tacoma (stock) w/ 5-speed manual transmission and 25k mileage on it.
when i bought it i needed the bed, but now i don't, so i'm carrying around an empty bed and lousy gas mileage (to me).

i'd like a 2/4 door sedan (a friend has a 2007 prius, which is very nice, but i wonder about what happens when the battery goes..).
and i can only afford what i can get for the truk (17k).

any ideas ?

If you're thinking about a Prius, don't. If you want better mileage, then don't settle for Hybrid junk. I'm going to suggest that you look into a Volkswagen diesel burner. Do your own research and don't take a dealer's answers. Get real world input from people, not some sharks at a car lot.

gonna have to be a VERY specific buyer that will pay $17k for a 2004 model truck, IMO.

either way, good luck....and like hole said, stay away from a prius. look at a used yaris hatchback....good and cheap and can get 38mpg with no weird expensive battery!!!!

58.82 mpg good enough for you. Diesel powered VW. One of the most under rated of all cars.

i stated the prius only because it's the only car i've had any experience with.
yes, i've considered the vw. i had one for 10 years (not the diesel) and loved it. i'll check these out and come back and ask you guys !

how come no one added toyota to the list ?

I knew a guy that drove from Kentucky to the gulf coast to work the oil patch with me. He drove a Prius and raped them on mileage. But it's not cost effective for their price. I told him about the VW diesel and he got one after the Prius failed to stop and went through a 'T' intersection into some pine trees. Plus, what happens when you are in a wreck in it. They won't cut you out with the jaws of life because of the batterys.

What VW did you have? I've had an '04 Jetta GLi for a little over 4 years now and I love it. 1.8l turbo with a 6-speed, and gets (driving conservative) 30+ mpg on the interstate. Cruise set on 100 mph will net low 20s mpg. 60 mph highway travel gets mid 40s mpg.

No Toyotas on my car list is because they are all hideous. The only
Toyota car that I would drive as mine would be the early '90s Supra. My wife had a Corrola S when they came out and I hated it. It was so ugly, but it got mid 30s mpg when we took it 4.5 hours to Florida one summer.

selling my truk ???

HOLEMAKER -

i had a '62 re-built "bug" that NEVER died on me - nothing ever went wrong !!! i loved that car - but it and myself hit an rv, bounced off the rv and hit a bentley. it started up and idled in neutral - sold it for the engine.

i hope your friend was allright after the prius accident.

since i got into the "truk thing" i quit looking at "cars", but now i'm back w/ the cars and WOW alot of things have changed !
i googled, "best used cars" and am finding some surprising things - like the e500 class of merceds and, my all-time favorite http://jalopnik.com/5546192/now-you-too-can-own-a-maybach-exelero

did you know that the 2006-2008 miata got an A rating ? like to have one, but i couldn't afford the insurance.

He was a little beat up, but he was overall fine. We all thought he had just went to sleep, since it was a 18 hour or so drive for him. When all that came out about the Pruis not stopping, his story made since.
