you can try 225/45/18, or if your wheels are 18x7 or 18x7.5, you maybe able to go 215/45/18. what kind of tires are you getting? summer? all season? touring?

here are some you can try to look at:
toyo proxes 4
toyo proxes T1R

falken ze912
falken fk452

pirelli pzero nero
pirelli pzero rosso

the first number is the width of the tire in millimeters. 225mm.
so if you look at a tire and it says 245/40/18, then you know it is wider than a 225/40/18.
depending on the width of your wheel, there would be corresponding appropriate tires for it. on a 7.5" wheel, you can go for a slightly narrower tire, 215/45/18 or the right sized tire, 225/40/18.

the second number, 40 or 45, is the aspect ratio. it is 45% of the 1st number, and that is how thick or thin your tires would be. a thicker tire will be more comfortable, a thinner tire just looks a lot better.

the last number is the size of the wheel you are running.

to be able to calculate the best match for tires/wheels, people use a tire calculator.

for all season tires, you can get a lot of choices and cheap prices too.
like i mentioned above, try toyo proxes 4 or falken ziex912. also, dunlop direzza101, yokohama avid h4s, general exclaim uhp.

235 would be too wide on a 7.5" wheel.
try getting a 225/50/17
That's not entirely true. It depends on the tire and the aspect ratio.

I have 7.5" wheels and 235 MM wide tires. Each tire manufacturer will give the range of wheel widths that the tire is designed for.

Here is a link to the page showing that my P235/45R18's are in the rim width range of 7.5"-9"

Going on Tire Rack's website will furnish all the information and specifications that you really need to make an informed decision. You can arrange tires by manufacturer, price, etc. You can also check the overall diameter of your stock tires versus other sizes that you may wish to install on your car. There are also reviews made by people for the different tires. You will also be able to see if a specific tire and size was designed for the wheel width that you have.

well, i guess +1 on "depending on the tires" and the manufacturers of the tires itself.
i've seen many people try to slap on 235 on a 7.5" wheel and it looks like the tire is too fat. instead of getting the stretched look, you get something which is quite the opposite.
but then again, maybe you're right, case to case basis too.

probably a long story to explain (quality, performance) but I would stick with the list from moky and maybe add the Nexen N300 (not my choice but I had people being happy with them) and the Kumho SPT as a decent low cost option. Just my 2 cents.

+1 on the Kumho SPT. It's a good value tire. (Low price, better than average quality=good value)
Oh, stay away from Wanli (made in China) I had a set of those Wanli that came with the rims that I bought on Craigslist. Loud, really loud road noise!

ive heard mixed reviews of the nankang tires.. id say tires are something that if you invest a little money into im sure it'll pan out in the long run. go for the name and get the reputation

+1..don't forget that this is what holds you on and separates you from the street at 90MpH. Their was a major recall of Chinese mfg tires last year - they separated.

225/45/18 will reduce roadnoise from 225/40/18??

i might grab the kumho or the falken

thanks you guy the advices
The 45 sidewall will give you a more comfortable ride due to a larger/thicker sidewall of the tire. Roadnoise is usually due to the design of the tires and more important from the manufactor of the tires.

and think of it this way too. you wouldnt want to cheapen out on tires. that's your car's grip on the road. cheap tires might cause your car to lose grip depending on the weather.
surely you dont want to risk lives over a few hundreds right?
