In a previous post I commented that the wet traction of the 225/55-17 General Altimax RT43 Tires on my 2013 TAHL had begun to degrade at about 7/32" of remaining tread. We have had a lot of wet weather lately and the loss of wet traction was becoming a safety issue so I replaced the Generals. At replacement, the Generals had been on the car about 35,000 miles and had 6/32" tread remaining. I replaced them with 225/55-17 Michelin Defender T&H tires.
I am pleased to report that the Michelins are vastly superior to the Generals, both now and in my recollection when the Generals were new. This includes every aspect: traction, ride comfort, handling and noise. I anticipated that the Michelins would have better traction, but I was really surprised that they have a more comfortable ride and are quieter, I mean really quiet with virtually no tire noise.
My 2013 rides and drives better than ever with the new Michelins. I am thinking of keeping it another five or six years when hopefully Toyota or another car company will have something to buy more to my liking. Hope this helps anyone considering a tire purchase.
