Hello:

I was pondering at some point getting a slightly bigger and more aggressive looking tire installed on my 2016 HL. The tire guy told me if I upgrade to a more aggressive tire pattern it will cause a noticeable difference in the ride. Stated, I'd get a noticeable vibration in the steering wheel and just a very different ride.

Given, I understand depending on how crazy I went the ride wouldn't be a soft as it is now but the whole vibration thing is NOT something I think I'd like or could stand.

I was wondering if anyone who has changed the style of the tires had this issue?

And did you go with a bigger tire? Wider? and if so what size and post pics. As I'd love to get some ideas for next Spring.

Thanks again to anyone and all who reply.

Hey Quad,

I have done it on another car/jeep I had, and have lots of fam and friends around me into Off roading.

From my experience...
The knobbier you go, the louder. But does get you the "aggressive look". Yes, it will get you the vibration in the steering. Since cabin noise(or lack of) is important to me, I would never do it. But if you don't use the car as a daily, or you have very short commutes, eh?
The wider and lower profile you go the bumpier it feels, and more you feel the road imperfections, and louder.
Wider and larger will hit your MPG's hard, if you care.
The steering being electronic, I would make sure the load is something within spec.

sigh......:frown::crying:...oh well...guess I'll just have to customize the hell out of the inside then. As it's my main vehicle and I travel a lot. I could probably handle the cabin noise but not the vibration. I was even hoping....sorry, dreaming of just keeping it sort of same size in height but going wider but even that is posing an issue I can see.

Anyways, thank you for the heads up. It's really appreciated....now, I just have to decide between either a Kenwood DNX893 or the Pioneer 8200 head unit

I tend to lean on the cautious side, so wait for a few responses. I do remember at least 1, maybe a couple people changing tire specs as a modification, but one I think I remember went towards the lower mini van or simply lower sleeker look.

I'm not sure if the 893 is a 2016 model , but Kenwood is revamping their line with faster software and working hard to beat Pioneer, so you might want to read up on the different models. The non Nav version they did recently release did have a few glitches and they did finally release an update. Some said that it fixed the issues, but a source distortion looks like a send in repair hardware issue, and Kenwood is doing it on a request basis, vs recall from retailers

You would have to get a very aggressive tread pattern to introduce any 'vibrations' - something along the lines of 'off-road knobbies'. I went from the OEM to a set of Firestone Destination LE2's and the only thing I noticed was a slight difference in the quality of the road noise - Oh, and a major improvement in vehicle handling.

Sweet and interesting thank you. I'll ponder a bit more and do some more searching. This info gives me a good starting point. As the info I'm currently finding isn't very promising. As for the new deck that to, like the tires is scheduled for early Spring 2017. So, who knows maybe Kenwood will release a new deck by then.

That 893 is a 2016 model, but read the the issues folks have had and what the update did for them....

Sigh...you know I really need to get my model numbers straight...the deck you posted is the deck I'm considering over the Pioneer 8200

You know, when I looked it up, the 893, the video for the 8803s came up. I think they are very much the same, but 893 has Nav. If I remember right, they mention it in some part of the video.

Yes but the 9903 does it all and then some without some of the bugs and issues of earlier models. Sept this much on my system, might as well finish it off right in the Spring

I know what you mean. I just got my JL amp back yesterday and I installed it last night. I also installed the Morel 402 Hybrid Integra speakers and today I will button things down, but it is so nice to have music in the car after almost a month of no tunes!!

A MONTH!!!!! OMG! I'd of booked off work lol...while I was waiting and putting up with the stock system..I was brainwashed and started to think it wasn't to bad...then I had to take my Matrix out one day after I gave it to my wife and I was like OMG!!!! as it has a old Clarion system in her....almost went back to driving it till mine was installed but the glitter in my wife's eye's was enough to scare the hell out of me...So, I simply told her to dream on, you can't drive my HL and went back to suffering for 2 weeks lol

LOL...oh that glittery sparkle! You know its time to back off :)

What was working for the past desperate few days was a Bluetooth speaker that can also take calls. It was awesome. A little late in thinking of it, but its kinda nice to have it independent so it still plays while the car is off and you have the door open and emptying the car, etc. Really handy.
The one I got was a Sharkk from Amazon. It was about $28 and sounds as good if not better than the $80+ Beats. It really is a sweet one. They go on sale from time to time. If in need of a BT speaker on the medium small size, this is it! I also have another much smaller hockey "puck" style I leave in the shower. Only if these things would charge themselves!

Here is the model I have...
https://amzn.com/B00K6LGKNY There is one for sale at $349!! Wait for about $30. If your paying more than $4o your paying too much.
