I'm thinking about trading my '04 3.0 V-6 Ford Ranger for a Taco--the Ford is limited at 90mph and at 70 mph I'm lucky to get 18.5 mpg....what the top speed of the '06 Taco?

well the Prerunner v6 I think is limited to 110mph
the Xrunner the only regular 2wd that has the 4.0 limiter is 124 but can pull alot more past that.
Yeah, I think it's about 110 - it's probably some weird number like 113 or 109, because car makers never make anything easy to remember, but it's right around 110. Truck has way plenty balls to go past that, because it pulls like a mule right up to it - it gets a bit light on its feet up there, though, so it's a good place to stop anyway (my 4WD Sport does, at least.)
yea i would imagine being little off the ground and going that speed my help to lift ya a little.
When i accidently took my XR to 120 beyond the spedo a little. I didnt realize it I thought I was doing 80 it felt planted pretty well
I beleive Car and Driver' s test listed 109 mph (governed).
If you want to keep the good gas mileage - my 4 cyl made it up to 105 with out a problem - is there a govener for the 4 cyl???
I had mine up to around 112 on the interstate the other day. It took me about a good minute after hitting 100 to get to 112, but after that, the needle wouldn't go anymore. It makes me kinda nervous going that fast, but I figured there were no cars around me at the time and I wanted to see how fast she can go. So, now I know, I probably won't ever get her up that fast again. But, it was fun.
Wow my old Hemi Ram would max out at 106. That's the last thing I's wat to see at 106 is a Taco beating my 345hp ass. Then I got the Superchip programmer:whatwhat: , I let off the gas at 140 and it was still pullling hard. Fun truck but I love my Taco.

Well, I guess I should of mentioned. I wasn't flooring it to try and get it up that fast as fast as I could. I just kinda eased to around 112.
Traded my '03 3.0 V6 Ranger for an '06 Tacoma. Don't know top speed yet, but the Ranger was hard-pressed to do 75 mph.
My Ranger will do 90 with ease but no more after that--very disapointed with this truck--just worried if I get the 4 liter taco I'll still be getting only 18mpg at 70-75 mph--I'm averaging 3000mi/wk driving all over south Texas and would like to get around 22mpg with V-6--dunno if I could live with the 4cyl 5sp man.

6-speed truck would have you in the same range - I get around 18 at 70-75 with mine. It seems the automatic guys get 20-22 in that speed range -- but if you go faster than 75, it seems the mileage falls off steadily in both, and more rapidly in the 6-speed. Search around some, there are several MPG threads. You won't be getting a whole lot better with any 4L truck, but you definitely won't be getting worse.
the four clyinder 5 speed is pretty damn good. I bought a 06 last halloween. It run 90 in a heartbeat, you think you doing 55. and still get 22 mpg city.
I got mine (06 Prerunner) past 120 :boink: I'll have to take a picture next time, I wanted to see how high it would really go but ran out of room :( Drives great at that speed though.
