Anyone know how long it takes for a total loss assesment? My car is a "total loss" according to my insurance company, but they haven't told me anything else. i was just curious as to how long it should take before the check is in my hands. They've had my car since August 30th. Does ne one think that they've had it for too long??

progressive

progressive insurance..they are really lagging. after about a week and a half after they towed my car, i called them to see how long it was gonna take for the repairs. They were like, oh well we've decided that it's a total loss. I was thinking >wtf didn't u call me to tell me that?? and they sed they were waiting for the other end to call them, but i called the other end and they were like..yea it's "our" fault so we'll pay for rentals, etc. whenever i call him, it goes to his voicemail. Iono..this experience kinda sucks.

Worse of all, i just added sum kinda expensive crap to my car: kn filter, new battery, new aftermarket headlight bulbs..

i was going straight going about 50-55. and this old old old lady in the middle turn lane decides to turn (she was "facing me") and so she turns and i hit her, even after i honk and brake. so they sed it was her fault (cuz it was) and my car is a 1996 toyota camry 2.2l. There was right front end damage: hood f*cked up, bumper, fender, and sum inside goodies were messed up. i just saw the repair cost on the progressive website. the cost was 3600. I wonder how much imma get back. I'm sumwat worried that i won't get back that much since the repairs were only 3600 and they won't fix it. How much do u think imma get?

have them fix the car anyway. you do have that option. say you want the car still and you want it fixed. do not let them total it out they will not give you enough to get another and they will make the money back that they gave you for it. if the front is the only part damaged you might be able to get a front clip for about under 2gs.

well my insurance guy sed i only had two choices: to get a check, or to take the car back and they'll give me the diff (he explained it to me like this: say my car is worth 5000, if i choose to keep my car, they'll find out what local salvage yards will give for my car, so if a salvage yard will buy the car for 1000, then i'll get the car and a check for 4000(5000-1000).. get it?) i want to know how much i can get, then i'll make a decision. But as for now my parents wanna borrow the money i get from my car and buy a new Toyota Sienna and in 2 years (on my 21st b-day) they'll buy me my car (i sed i wanted a 93-98 supra, and suprisingly they agreed)...but IF i did have that choice of having them fix it, and not having em "total" it, then i'd keep it and get it repainted..

no i won't be going w/o a car..i'll be driving the minivan..my parents basically want it for a backup car, incase their current minivan dies suddenly..and if i buy a car now..it'll be a 4 or 5 seater...and we need at least a 6+ seater with alotta trunk space (for our business..)...and since a minivan is cheap that's wat they want...and yea i'm 19..

I totalled my car this last winter (same deal, some guy pulled out in front of me). If it's the same deal as with mine the insurance company itself doen't have the car but a local salvage yard. If you want you should be able to call whoever handled the tow and find out which yard, then you can call the yard and go take stuff out of the car that is still salvagable, if they've already made an estimate on your car value you can take whatever you want. other wise leave stuff you think they'll pay you for. I took my snow tires cause they were only worth 60 buck to the insurance (worth 200 to me, they were brand new). It ended up taking 2 and 1/2 months for my check though (I got a rental for 1 month) cause I had to prove to them that the previous owner (a friend) had put a new engine in it. ended up getting ripped off anyway. Good luck though, sorry this was so long, hopefully it was informative.

I wrecked my corolla on a Saturday, and Progressive had my check the following Tuesday. They only raised my rate $5 over 6 months. I would've stayed with them if 21st Century didn't offer a quote lower by $150.
