"Toyota Confirms Lexus LS, Camry for Detroit

Toyota says that two important vehicles will be shown in production form at the Detroit auto show coming in January. First off the bat is the production Lexus LS, based on the LF-Sh concept shown in October in Tokyo . The new car, in concept form, boasted a hybrid-V-8 mated to an all-wheel-drive system. When it rolls into showrooms next year, we expect to see a 4.6-liter V-8 in the LS460. A rumored V-10 apparently is not in the works, TheCarConnection was told, though a seven-speed transmission will be added at some point. There will also be an optional 5.0-liter V-8/hybrid package. At the Tokyo preview, executives said the gasoline-electric powertrain will produce "an acceleration feeling of a different dimension." That's in line with what TCC had been told by recently retired Lexus General Manager Denny Clements, who'd been championing a line of hybrid performance vehicles. The first of these, the GS450h, was also shown in Tokyo . In 5.0-liter hybrid form, a senior American Toyota executive boasted to TheCarConnection that the LS will outperform both the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7-Series - a tall order that will be closely scrutinized.

The other major introduction of the Detroit show for Toyota will include the 2007 Camry sedan. The new Camry will be offered eventually with hybrid technology, but Toyota has not confirmed a timeline for that powertrain offering. Toyota does promise that the new Camry, which has been the best-selling car in America for seven of the past eight years, will feature significantly improved performance and new level of comfort and refinement."

Before buying GM's Subaru stake, Toyota would have been more likely to use Nissan's ATTESA system or other drivetrain components than Hondas, since Nissan tends to use the same technology and suppliers as Toyota.

The 2007 Lexus LS

This is most likely REAL pics of the 2007 LS. I guess Lexus was correct in saying that the new LS was 85% of what the concept LF-Sh was. Gone are the super cool headlights on the LF-Sh concept and the nice grille that the concept had. But overall the new LS look pretty much like the LF-Sh and looks like a sweet ride. Here are some specifications:

Translated from Mag-X:
The new LS460, due spring of 2006, will have the new 4.6L V8 with an output of 350hp, but the hybrid version due at the end of 2007, the LS600h, will have the same engine but with 5.0L capacity. However, with the electric motor will produce an output of 500bhp. This number is comparable to the German ones with V12, but the LS600h will have a fuel economy of a V6 engine.

The LS600h, which targets squarely at V12 German vehicles such as BMW 760 and MB S600 will employ a CVT transmission.

Overall, there will be four versions of LS: the normal version (FR), Long wheel base version (limousine type), AWD version (only available with the LWB version), and the aforementioned hybrid versions. [Many thanks to Sang-Won.]

This last pic is a supposed spyshot of the Lexus LS. But this one looks different from the one's posted above. This spyshot looks more like the current LS and the grille looks a little different as well.

Compare to this photo of the Lexus LF-Sh
