Think Toyota Nation's forum rule regarding no links to free editions of the FSM (Factory Service Manual) is unfair, unjust, anti-consumer, or anti-free speech/1st Amendment? Please read on....

Toyota Nation included this rule because--contrary to popular notion--Toyota Nation is not owned or operated by Toyota Motor Corporation but is instead a private business owned by Autoguide.com. Toyota, as legal owner of all copyrighted material printed under its name, contacted Toyota Nation (among a number of other businesses) and demanded that free copies of the FSM disseminated online via web URLs or other download links not be allowed as it violates modern copyright law. Failure to follow Toyota's request would result in a lawsuit as well as an inability to use the Toyota name. Put in the most simple terms from our point of view: No use of the word Toyota means no Toyota Nation. So you can see, compliance on our part is an absolute must.

Now, that being said, for those members who still think Toyota Nation and its volunteer staff members are part of a "Big Brother" conspiracy, unfairly and unjustly preventing you from either acquiring that free FSM edition that is somehow due you and/or trampling on your right to free speech, it can only be recommended that you take courses in free market economics as well as copyright law at your local community college. Also, purchase a copy of the FSM. Given the amount of money most owners invest in their vehicles via maintenance and modifications, the cost of an FSM is minimal when the total cost of vehicle ownership is calculated.

Also, please do not harass our staff via private message or online postings about the free FSM issue because we've heard all the insults before and, ultimately, we just don't want to hear it. When each person signs up to become a member on Toyota Nation they agree to abide by our Forum Rules. If you cannot abide by the Forum Rules then by all means contact an Administrator who will gladly cancel your account.

Thank you for your time, understanding, and compliance.
