Toyota to help Ford increase profits?

The basic story I heard from a Lexus mechanic I know. Ford has turned to Toyota to help turn around there profits. Its suposed to be a 3 year plan and if it doesn't work Ford is going to Shut down. Anyone heard of this or have a link to any news stories? I'll like to read it published to see if its true or not.

Judging by all the URD parts. I'm pretty well guessing you believe the moon is made of green cheese & if it were made of BBQ spare ribs. Would you eat the moon?

That is such a joke tho.

I'll believe if I see if published from an automotive news sourse. Which is the reason for this thread. Asking if someone else may have seen it and can share the link. There is no need to be an ass with your comments.

Thats why I've been looking for the news story on, so far I haven't been able to find anything.
Sounds like BS. Unless Toyota plans to take over Ford in the near future...
The guy is lying. Toyotas links are with GM not Ford. Ford has the Mazda connection.

Recently in an interview I've seen at the Detroit Auto Show The Ford CEO said that they are going to revamp their car line up but that's it.
sounds far fetched indeed, but Ford did just meet with Toyota execs and also, I wouldn't be all that surprised if Ford did indeed have to "shut down" or file for bankrupcy within 3 years if they continue to lose money at the rate that they are right now. with a $4000 loss for each vehicle sold, how long can they possibly stay afloat?

I'm sure there will be no major partnership, but I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota is willing to help them a bit with thier efficiency and productivity.

Not completely true. The ford Escape uses Toyota's licensed HSD technology and pay Toyota a royalty for using said technology.
I think he meant that Ford will increase the focus on Toyota Production System (TPS), which will help Ford back on its feet.
There are consultants who travel around teaching companies about how to implement TPS in all parts of the production, and the documentary I saw about it reported that it has saved a lot of small corporations.

The technologies that Toyota and Ford share (licenses work both ways) isn't really where Ford has its largest problems. Take a look at the "Way Forward" - it is there that Ford has stated all the things that need to be done in order to return to profitability.
Not sure if I agree with this.

Ford is so big...they can keep losing money like this for much more than 3 years and they'd
probably still be alive. They need to restructure. There is simply no point for Unions anymore now that OSHA rules and regulations are so widespread. Pay those workers market wages and nothing more. Maybe they can spend money on product again. UAW is making Americans look bad.

On the bright side: The Mazda pair-up seems to be paying off. Both the 6 and the Fusion/Milan seem to be very competative products. The 500 is very under-rated IMHO. It just needs a motor, which is out soon.

Ford should probably not bring any more Focuses (or anything)from Europe. You can sell anything overthere with a trendy interior. It takes reliability to sell here.
far-fetched. Ford will be taken private before they close down. Actually, they'd probably get a government bailout before they shut down, too.

their Allan Mullay met with toyota. that's about all the fact that's out there at this point.

As you mentioned, you're looking for news stories. You won't find anything talking about what this mechanic said. Sorta sounds like he pulled it outa his arse

Hey man, welcome to Earth. Ask a stupid question...

If Toyota were going to bail out Ford. Toyota would have bought stock in Ford & taken over it's idle assembly / parts plants. Rebuilt them & brought in a newer, more compitant workforce. Just as they did with Subaru. Has Toyota done that?
"No".
Question answered. Thread over.

Or you could Google it...

Anything about Toyota bailing out Ford?
"No".
