I just purchased a 2010 Rav4 4l AWD from Carmax. The vehicle will be here in the next couple of weeks since I had it shipped from the East Coast. The car has a clean report and has 18k miles. The salesman wanted to sell me the carmax car plan for 75k 100deductible for around $1100.

My question is can I get a warranty from toyota still? If so where? My dealership in town will charge me around $1500 but they are overpriced I feel. What is my best option? I would prefer to save some money as I am a student. Thanks!

Yes, you can get the Toyota Extended Warranty as long as the vehicle is under 3 years old and under 36,000 miles. You need to contact Jerry Johnson at Midwest Toyota. He sold me the 8 year 75,000 mile Platinum warranty with 0 deductible for $659. Here's the details:

Toyota Extra Care Vehicle Service Agreement, Platinum
No deductible

8yr / 75,000 miles - $659 - The price for this warranty on the Toyota site is $1325 for comparison.

Things included in this coverage are:
*Unlimited towing to nearest Toyota dealership
*Reimbursement up to $50/day for 5 days per occurrence for rental car
*Meal/lodging up to $100/day when over 150 miles from home
*Transferability (with fee) to others if vehicle sold

He will need your personal information, the VIN, exact mileage, and a credit card number. The actual purchase must be done over the phone. I also have the official Toyota extended warranty from Jerry. It was almost 1/2 the price of what the dealer wanted for exactly the same thing. Junebug and I got them about the same time. Jerry is a pleasure to deal with and our other '08 RAV's warranty was also purchased from him. We covered TWO RAVs for the price of one if bought at the dealership.

My story- Bought 2010 Rav4 from dealership, my first time at a dealership and got caught up in all the talk and signing.
Also had a trade in at the promised price 2500. After sitting down and financier told me my van was only worth 500 but because of promised 2500 he would extend the courtesy. Then he went into the warranty, told us we could have bumper to bumper coverage for 2500. Wasn't happy but knew my husband was tired of working on cars and with the computers he couldn't do it. Should have nogotiated but like I said first time at a dealership and was overwhelmed.
Two weeks later got the warranty, plan -Gold coverage, 50 deductable. Really! Thought I had the "Wrap around, bummper to bummper". So went to the internet for some imformation and found out..boy did I get ripped off! I know I should have had all this knowlage before I went looking for a car, but wasn't even planning on buying, was just looking and walked out with a car. Love the car so that's not the issue. Also didn't know that I could buy separately so it wasn't added into the loan. Ended up canceling, just going through Toyota by sending a letter, wasn't going to deal with the financier. Took about 2 weeks for cancelation, called Jerry Johnson at Midwest Toyota and got the Platinum no deductible 7 year 100,000 miles for 996. Jerry was so helpful and nice. Bottom line next time I will have my homework done before I jump into something so costly. ..
Truly now feel like I got my trade in value.
