Toyota_Dood2's tsx retrofit w/ Iron man mod

:rolleyes::D:cool::naughty::chug::clap:

After a weekend of battling electrical problems. I finally got my headlights up and running. The easiest part was doing the actual retrofit. The hard part was wiring it in and removing the bumper etc.

more pics to come. I still have to put my car back together.

I ordered white ights but they gave me these. They look like 6k or 8k, but im not sure. I should have painted the shrouds because my cutoff isnt clean. There is stray light the bounces off the chrome. On the plus side, they really make the LED's stand out.

Thank you, sir!
I think you have to paint the chrome housing where the projector is flat black so nothing reflects.

The LEDs look nice...just need better pics
the dude added LED around the bezel.
its cool, but those LEDs & wires cant stand the heat from the HID's an eventually will burn out
Reminds me of the ironman lights on the Gs and Zs.

Yes, I couldnt remember what is was called. Thanks. It's the iron man mod.
r8 mod is different.
Looks very nice.. good job !!!!

depending on when used they might not burn out. also depends on the ones used.
looks good, side note, how hot do hid's get? seems if they got hot enough to melt a led strip that housing itself would run into issues too.
HIDs get super hot, for example...i think the bulb came out of the socket when gene had his camry and melted part of the housing of his headlight, if i remember correctly. but anyway im talkin from experience b/c i did this mod, wrapped the wires at least 3 times with electrical tape too... only 1 LED survived, its on the outer bezel of the projector thats why, an lights up, the others melted b/c of the heat from the HIDs.
Just a quick question, between 35W halogen and 35W HID, which one produces more heat? I remember the HID system draws less current than the halogen system after starting-up given that they are running at the same wattage. Besides, does it really depend on the wattage? I hear some say it depends on the color temperature indeed.

Its not touching the projectors, but it is close. It sits flush. The leds strips are taped to electrical tape which is wrapped around aluminum tape. The farther out the leds are out from the projector, the better reflection it has of the lense. The only thing touching the projector directly is the 2 tapes I used. I was going to use a metal pipe clamp but I was too impatient to wait til monday. They run about 3 bucks for a pair at Autozone.

What is an "r8 mod"?

A guy in another forum called this the r8 mod, but..

the only thing special about a real r8 headlight is the led strip

depends where u measure and such but usually hids are said to run cooler than halogens. but with these leds they produce heat themselves so the extra heat from the hids is what really kills them. yes u can prob build a set with heatsink and all that would last longer but still. it's recommended only to run these without the hids on.
lol i added a new video.
