Trans issues

Ok Im new here and I just bought an 89 Pickup 4x4 with the 22-RE. The owner before me drove it without any oil in the trans and almost ruined the whole thing. I bought a trans from somebody who said that it would fit an 89-95 22-RE 4x4 pickup. When the tranny came I had to switch the tail housing with the old one to make it fit to the transfer case but now the coupler that goes between the trans and the transfer case won't fit, it seems that the trans has more splines then the coupler. Does anyone have any suggestions or any adapters that anyone knows of? Thanks.

They had 2 different trannies in 89, 23 spline W56 and 26 spline G58.
G58 was on trucks w/VDD. Sounds like you got the wrong one.

Are there any adapters out there? Any W56 transmissions for sale? And what is the VDD you speak of?
