This is on an 07 V6 4WD with the rust undercoating recall work done on the original frame.

My trans cooler tube burst when I was pulling down a tree at home. I first thought the 4WD was acting funky but the the CEL came on and I found ATF running out from under the front of the truck. I was lucky it happened at home.

The trans cooler tubes are mounted right below the radiator with rubber hoses running to the trans and radiator. You need to take the lower front cover off to get to it. I found the tubing and all of the hose clamps all but destroyed by rust. There was a lot of rust on the lower cover too.

The part number for the tube is 3290704010. I replaced all the hose clamps with stainless steel, sprayed everything with corrosion stop and put in over a gallon of new ATF. The CEL code was p2714 btw. I also did a lot of undercoating touch up while I was down there too.

This is something to keep an eye on for if you live in a rust prone area.

You're fortunate that you have an older truck that still has a transmission dipstick. It's a bigger hassle on a newer one like mine.

You don't know how lucky you are.
The more common failure is the trans cooler inside the radiator.
Then you have trans fluid in the cooling system and oil in the transmission

I know this was a somewhat common failure on the 3rd gen 4runners and probably also the 1st gen tacoma. I have not heard of many 2nd gen tacomas having this issue.
