Transfer case 4x4 problems

7832 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  landphil
Hey Guys,

Spent some time seaching the posts found nothing related to my problem.

when i shift my truck into 4hi the light flashes only.. the truck actually makes it into 4hi... prolly just barely. 4lo doesn't work at all.

i presume the transfer case actuator is dying err dead

i have to turn the truck off to get it back into 2wd with the light off.

anyone have a go at fixing this ? anyone taken this apart before ? the transfer case actuator i mean

any tips / tricks to try?

any help would be apprecaited !

Cheers

Please be more descriptive about what is happening. Barely making it into 4wd is incorrect. It's like a switch either you are in 4wd or not. Do you put your truck in N before making the switch to 4lo?

sorry 2006 AC 4x4 V6 6 speed std

when I mean it 1/2 shifts, i mean it moves just enough to engadge 4hi.. should wouldnt want to see what happens under load. prolly snap out of 4hi

you cannot shift the truck into 4lo... the actuator i suppose only moves a little. just enough to shift into 4hi barley.

make sense ?

cheers

Contact "awsumdc" on TTORA. I believe he has taken the actuator apart several times and cleaned it.Get the procedure from him, do it yourself, and then write a DIY for the rest of us! :chug:

There is also a switch on the AAD vacuum actuator on the front diff - check your vacuum lines and connections there too, as well as the connections at the t-case actuator. Sounds like you're probably on the right track though if it won't shift to 4 lo with the clutch pedal firmly floored. (and before you move the switch). I suspect when you say it "barely shifts" into 4 Hi, the diff is locking but the t-case is not. And don't forget to check all your fuses if you haven't already. Good luck.

thanks, i was unsure if the diff was live all the time... or if it has a vacuum pod on the long axle !

was thinking about this... where is the switch that activated the 4x4 and 4lo lights? is this one of the switches on the transfer case actuator.. that localize's the problem no ? I think i will assume the front end it working

Yes, the 4-lo switch will be on the t-case, I think it's built into the actuator.
