tried to paint cigarette lighter...uh o
i got the whole thing apart...look at the bulb...take it down to pep boys...the guy tries to pull the bulb out of the socket and it doesnt come out...i go and buy some testors model kit paint in the colour blue...i paint the outside of the ring twice, and the inside once...i put the cigarette lighter all back together and i dont see a thing...no light whatsoever...is the bulb gone or is the paint soooo thick that no light can shine through....and if i do have to replace the 74 bulb thats in there...how the hell am i supposed to get it out???

The bulb does not come out. It is soldered in.
A replacement comes with the green ring, about $17 if memory serves me right. It is a toyota part,so no Zone replacement.

Oh dude that totally sucks. Shoulda tested your testors first. Use rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover to get all the paint off. Removing that bulb is nigh impossible.
If you are gonna use model paint to color bulbs make sure it is candy (i.e. lets light thru). Your other options are sharpie permanent marker or nail polish.

if it's enamel paint u'll need paint thinner. go into a hobby store and if i remember right, there's a japanese brand of acrylic paint there and there's a type where it dries kinda clear. it's for tinting windows in models. that should work. testor's regular model paint, no matter how much u thin it, light willl almost never go through it
o...nothing to worry about...the bulb still works...i found that out when i went driving at night...i could barely see it...im gonna take some mineral spirits to the lighter tom. and then either use one coat and borrow my friends blue nail polish
mix the paint with some clear paint or clear nail polish if your gonna use that it will give you about the same effect as candy.

I also learned (the inconvenient way) that some markers lose color with heat.
I did have good luck with blue glass stain (it's transluscent), but the bulbs were noticably dimmer after.
