Hello -

I have a 1996 Corolla and the trunk release latch snapped near the base. I am going to a self-pull salvage yard Monday to see if the 96 Corolla they have listed on their site still has its trunk/gas release intact; if so we have no problems. However, if it's already been pulled, I wanted to reach out to this community and see if there are other years of Corollas I could pull from, or even other models of Toyota that would have the same lever with the same bolt placement for installation? On their website it looks like they also have a 1994, a 1998, a 2000, 2001 and 2004.

I've attached a picture of the part I am hoping to replace for $12 instead of $105.

Thanks in advance for reading this. Hope to get some answers from this community!

This page lists the part fitment as 95-97 Corollas and 93-98 Supras. It could be the same part but a different color on other models, or parts of the assembly could be the same on other models, so you could disassemble it for the sub-part you need.

But I'd bet the part is still on the 96 model they have. I wouldn't think it breaks often.

The pic looks like the same as the one on my '96 Prizm, so that may give you some more vehicles to look at.
At some yards, the Geo Prizms are in the GM section, so ask the PNP employee where they might be.

I would take your broken unit to compare, although they are all probably the same part '93-'97, Corolla/Prizm.

Welcome to Toyota Nation!

It's the same latch across all 93-97 7th gen Corollas, as well as the 93-98 Supras. They're all black as far as I know, though I think there is a colored trim around it. I doubt you'll have trouble finding them on wrecked cars.
