Turbo diesel engine for Toyota Estima

Anybody who can give me some details regarding my 1993 Toyota Estima 2.2TD MT? I'm having a problem with my mechanic for he had disconnected the intercooler(looks like a small radiator) from the turbo engine, is it ok for my engine? Or the performance of the engine will diminish?
