Ok peeps I'm new to the whole import im just getting interested any way im looking at the 3s-ge and the 3sgte. now if i put a turbo in the 3sge will that pretty much make it a 3s-gte. And were can one find a engineless 94-98 celica i just want the shell to drop the engine i choose in.

1) It will make it a 3sgte if you put a turbo on it. It won't make it a factory-spec 3sgte, with the better cams and whatnot, but it'll be a 3sgte

2) try a salvage auction or junk yard

source it from a japanese dismantler. it'd be easier for you to import the shell from there than to modify the chassis and put in the AWD drivetrain

you might not be able to find a shell, so just do a swap instead and then sell off the old engine. However when doin an engine swap where AWD is the goal, you will need to locate all the parts for it, which in your case means the drivetrain, petrol tank etc. what are your final goals in doin the engine swap?

as far as goals go im a lunitic behind the wheel so i want something fast and with a lot of control hence why i want awd I have no need to be in a club just personal benifets as far as when no clue I am trying to figure ways to come up with the money for the engine and tranny than the car it self

For all that trouble (and money), just get yourself a Celica All-Trac..

They're rare everywhere... just keep looking. Autotrader, eBay, etc... just cause they're not around now doesn't mean they won't be tomorrow. I remember when I was looking for one, I found only two decent mileage GT-4's within an hours drive of me in months of searching.

We did not get that model (94-98) All-Trac and even if you found one, it would be illegal to drive on the road. Secondly turning a fwd Celica into an AWD celica would be more trouble and money than it's worth. Go find a 90-93 All-trac if you want the aws. Otherwise just do the swap into a fwd Celica. It will be faster than the awd one anyway.

Talisman is being serious with his post....it known that the AWD ST185's had a weight problem and the awd system was the main culprit. hence why he has suggested that you do a 3sgte swap into a normal fwd celica...if you want the GT4 one then all you can do is search for one, we dont have any special access to cars here on TN so you have to do what we do too and just search.

So you have a few options

1. fwd -> awd celica conversion : very expensive
2. fwd -> 3sgte fwd celica conversion: not so expensive
3. spend some time to look for a GT4 Celica
4. mustang engine into your ranger....

obviously option 2 would be my personal reccommendation. i've had a friend over here do a swap in abt 1.5 weeks and its runs nicely. if you are still adamant on a fwd-> awd conversion then try and get a look at a FWD one underneath, then think about the parts you'll need...

keep us up to date on your choice

Cheers,

Huy

Theres a guy around here with a 3SGTE in his 6th Gen Celica... sucker puts 430hp to the front wheels! So no doubt you can have a very fast Celica without the AWD.

to horse yes i know that he was serious i was too and the mustang is probably my best bet i have a body just need engine and tranny now

to silver yeah i never doubted that celica could be fast even with just fwd but the AWD was one of the main things i wanted for the full control of the car at high speeds
