Before Zoni gets here...I wanna be the first to say.....Use the Serch Button!
^I agree, before Dave see's this post, you'd better use the search button...But, i think Dave would also say that if you're gonna do a whole engine swap, then go for the 3sgte instead of using the 5sfe. Otherwise you can also swap into a 1mzfe and do what tony did.
1. Turbo
2. Turbo manifold
3. Injectors
4. MAP sensor
5. Oil lines and water lines (if you run water cooling to the turbo).
6. Blow off valve
7. Custom piping
8. Custom downpipe

etc.. etc..

Do a search for turbo 5s, turbo 5s-fe, or 5s-fte.
hey i have a minor question that i never really under stood on the 3sgte. the 3sgte are off a mr2 turbo... and the engine is in the trunk of the car correct? Is their like any mods needed ion the first place to run the engine in the front rather then the back if you wanted to drop the engine in a camry or celica?

i never did understand that. did camry just do a whole reverse setup ?

3S-GTEs also come in Celica All-Trac/GT4 and Caldina.

Yes the engine is mounted in the back on a MR2. However the trunk on a MR2 is in the front.

The engine will mount in the front. However the tranny won't work as is, you need to modify it for fwd applications.

Theres also no power steering pumps on MR2's so you either have to drill & tap the block for it. Or run a electric pump.

If you think about it, the engine is mounted the same way as our Camrys. The engine is just moved to the back of the car.
but the all-trac celica's aren't they the older models like 80's. wow no power steering :*(

for the tranny would you be able to use another's cars tranny say a celica gt-s 's tranny for that matter?

No. Theres different generations. ST-165, 185, and 205. Caldina is ST-215.

You can use a tranny from a Celica with the 3S-GE. The tranny will bolt up to a 3S-GTE. Not sure how it would mount in your gen 3 though.

Other option is to use a E153 (same tranny as MR2 turbo except its configured for fwd) from a V6 Camry / Solara.
actually, if the 5s-fe was placed in the MR2 like it is in the Camry, the shifter would be in the rear trunk...

yes, the MR2 has a normal rear trunk, and in the front "trunk" is the battery and spare tire...

the 5s-fe/3s-gte in the MR2 is actually "upside down", so if you drop in an MR2 3s-gte, the words your cam cover will be be facing towards the rear of the car, but the engine would work fine...

also the 3s-gte wont mat to any automatic tranny that you'll find in the US, so if your car is an auto, you'll have to swap it out...

luckily, the 3s-gte uses the same manual as the Solara V6/Camry V6...

but, to answer your question, go with the 3s-gte if you can...:D

How do you figure?

The difference between a tranny on a MR2 and Camry is the shift linkage on the tranny itself.

On the MR2 its mounted on the front of the tranny. Its mounted on the back of the tranny on a Camry.

Obviously the cables would be different too.

Go read this:

It explains how to modify a tranny from a MR2 so that it can be used in a fwd application.

The engine is not upside down.

Yes the words on the valve cover will be backwards, but the engine is not upside down.
