I'm an excited new first time Toyota owner....and I live in Michigan. I'm wondering about what type of undercoating (other than what the dealer is recommending) would be recommended or appropriate for the Higlander Hybrid. There's a lot of various opinions online about whether to undercoat hybrids due to some of the parts being plastic and not metal as well as concerns about a heavy undercoating covering up needed sensors. Thanks in advance!

I got my 22 Limited undercoated with Woolwax. It is similar to Fluid Film but thicker and less likely to wash off, but still will over time. Unlike harder coated undercoatings it will not let water and oxygen get under it. I found a shop that did it for $350. I did also have them wax the car and ceramic the windshield. So total was about $570. They will touch up the Woolwax for about $150-$200 every year. I'm going to ask my installer about a newer Woolwax product that might help in the areas that wash off.

Woolwax® "HV" Wheel Well Grease
A very thick lanolin gel for high-wash areas. Lanolin gel is dark brown. This is normally applied with a firm brush, or can be heated and sprayed on.

I don't know the name of the product but extended family in Maine, where they have real winters and a lot of rotted cars, have the undersides of their Subaru's sprayed with a lanolin product that has helped keep their cars from rusting through for many years (2008, 2010 Outback and Forester).
