The towing package allows you to tow 6500 pounds, a full 1500 more than you need...I think. The truck will come wired with a 7 pin female end and trailer brake pigtail. Not huge amounts, but the engine/tranny oil coolers are more than worth the $$$ for the package.

If you are just towing a boat or utility trailer you probably don't need the larger alternator or battery. Those are more so required if you tow an RV that has power needs such as charging internal batteries.

The tranny cooler is a must for towing IMO. I would go after market on this because it will be cheaper and larger then the factory cooler.

The oil cooler is a nice as well but is costly to add if you buy new parts from the dealer. Someone recently posted the costs for the factory oil & tranny cooler.

I say just get the tow package..... if you don't, you're just shooting yourself in the foot at resale time.

I'm still not sure if you even have a truck or if you're buying one.... in your original post you said, "my 08 v6" If it's yours, shouldn't you have already made this decision?

Yes, I already own the truck. Thats why I put "my 08 V6." At the time of purchase, I didn't plan on towing anything that heavy.

My 07 has the tow package, and I think it was a worthy upgrade. I towed a utility trailer a couple weeks ago over 100 miles w/ 6100lbs of telephone poles in it, and I was shocked how well it traveled. I don't tow that much weight on a regular basis, but after that experience, I would feel quite good about towing a 5000lb rig just about anywhere.

What are you pulling? If it has electric brakes, you will need to add the wiring for that as well as a brake controller.

You need to get a tranny cooler.

You will want to have a WD hitch, air bags, or helper springs to keep off the bumpstops and keep the truck from handling like shit.
