URD short shifter disappointment

Recently bought a new 2006 Tacoma, access cab, 4wd, SR5, v6 and 6-speed. Very nice but the shifter was way too sloppy. So I took a chance on the URD short shifter, www.urdusa.com/ and installed it last week.

Major dissapointment! :sosad: The kit is a hack-job. It's a jury-rigged, over-priced half-assed implementation of a short shifter. The pieces are machined well but it's like a jigsaw puzzle where the pieces have to fit just so and there isn't a good way to align them. And I have absolutely zero confidence that it will not come apart after accumulating some mileage.

It does shorten the shift throws but at the expense of not always engaging reverese or first gear without slamming it into place. And at least twice has popped out of first on me.

For reference, I installed a Hurst short shitfer,

onto my 2000 Dakota and drove it for 6 years. It was an engineering marvel compared to the URD piece and never had a nit for problem engaging any gear. Too bad Hurst doesn't make a unit for the Tacoma.

I am so disappointed with the URD unit that
I ordered the TRD shifter to replace it.

It would have loosened up in a month or two. Reverse is tough at first.

Did you follow the directions completely? If you did, there is virtually no way it will come apart.

I've had it for about 16 months now. Definitely in the top 3 of modifications I've done to my truck.

Sorry to hear you wasted your money on the TRD kit. Enjoy!
I've heard nothing but praise for the URD unit! You're the first to express otherwise...
