Hello all. Longtime Prius owner (2005), was recently totaled and replaced with a used 2006 Highlander Hybrid. Was blinded by low mileage (about 81K) and didn't note some technical issues - the big one being that the used dealer only provided one key, that turns out to be the valet key. What are my options? I am in the Seattle area...

Key as in key, not fob? As fob also has physical key in it.
For that year, ppretty much a decent locksmith shop should cut and program the key for you.
Otherwise, I'd raise hell with dealer who sold you this, as valet is not fully functional, right?

Keys are EXPENSIVE going to dealer.

Planning to try to do so, but they're the usual evasive, smarmy folks that give used car salesmen the reputation they have. Fortunately the 2006 is old enough that the fobs and keys are separate - I was already able to get a <$20 spare and program it to lock and unlock the doors.

At this point looking to find a locksmith that can just clone the valet I have. That's sufficient functionality for now, I suppose, since the HiHy doesn't have a trunk and we never lock the glove box. Time to make some calls...

I have nothing but good to say about Renton Toyota. They have always treated me well. And by far, I am not a dealership goer. Gunpoint only.

If valet works for you as is, then that's not an issue, any decent smithy should have little transponder copying gizmo and pantograph machine to copy your key. Is it dual sided edge, or one of them goofy Lexus type with groove in the key blank middle?
