V6 engine ticking

I know this has been discussed before, and yes 55, I know where the search button is located. But, I just wanted to see if anyone has recently learned anything else about the "ticking" noise coming from the engine under acceleration or load. I know there are those that say it's normal, but if it is, there's got to be a way to make it a bit quieter. Has anyone tried putting insulation under the hood? If so, where did you get it?

Like I said, I just want to see if anyone has learned anything new on this problem. Is it really an exhaust leak or the variable valves or the fuel injectors or... or... or?... I really want to F'ing know. This is driving me nuts. I'm about afraid to take it to the dealer to get them to look at it. From other cases I've heard/ read, guys have had their trucks in and out of the shop just to have the dealer swap all kinds of parts to get zero results. Any new insight would be greatly appreciated.

My engine used to make the ticking, however it has stopped. When I changed to to mobil 1 5w-30 the ticking decreased and now at about 10000 miles on the truck I don't hear it anymore.
The more miles you get, the quieter it seems to get. I got close to 14K on mine, and rarely ever hear it. And I am using Valvoline 5W30 dead dinosaur juice with stock Toyota filters.
Are you referring to the exhaust ticking? It drives me nuts to, I dont think oil or mileage will make a difference though. I think you jsut get used to it.

If this was my only truck I would probably get used to it, but you get out of the Dodge and back in the Toyota and you really notice it. I havent had a car with this much exhaust tick since I put headers on a older pickup. I think the exhaust manifolds have too thin of a gauge of steel. I bet Toyota makes a change by 07.

I've noticed 2 ticks one from the engine itself at idle and under load. Then the exhaust tick wich seems to show up right around 2000 rpm's. Either way it's GAY.
I have 10000 miles on mine now and I don't notice the ticking. I use Mobil 1. Some of the members suggest high flow oil filters help.

Good Luck, and turn the radio up, LOL.
