I suspect the VAFS (Vane Air Flow Sensor) on my 87 Camry is sticking? I am experiencing engine hesitation upon initial acceleration. I removed the top of the air filter box and moved the flap with my fingers. It moved freely. I removed the 2 screws that secure the wiring plug to the air clearner lid but found several attached connections within the air cleaner lid that I could not disconnect. Your advice is appreciated.

The 2 screws on the plug goes to the AFM (air flow meter), not the air filter box.

AFM attaches to the top half of the air filter box with 4 nuts.

By the way never remove the 2 screws on the plug going to the AFM. If you remove the 2 screws and yank on the plug, you'll be replacing the AFM.

Theres another plug (part of the engine wiring harness) that plugs into the AFM.
