Valve cover gasket replacement

Hello,
I'm looking for online info that might help me replace the valve cover gasket in my 86 pickup (4-cyl., 22R). Oil seems to be leaking from the area of the gasket, and smokes on the manifold when the engine is hot. I'm not a mechanic and have never tried working on my own engine, but I'm tired of making the rounds of mechanics in my area. I've been told this is an easy replacement, so I'm going to try. In addition to any other info, I'd like to know the proper torque for the bolts that hold the cover in place.
Will I have to drain my oil to do this?
I would appreciate any and all advice relating to my effort to keep this fine truck running strong.

Do yourself a favor and just get the gasket kit at the Toyota dealer. I think the torque is 10#'s. 15 minute job and you don't need to drani anything.
