Hi. I'm brand new to this forum and I was hoping someone could help.

This just started happening with this cold weather. Lights come on first thing in the morning. Drive for a while and then shut off motor, start right back up and lights go out. Some times the PBrake light goes out and sometimes it stays on. I'm guessing a sensor or sensor's are sticking someplace. Where can i start looking?

I did a search on VSC but didn't find anything.

What indicator lights does the console have? If the light is for the parking brake, the switch for the brake could be misadjusted indicating the brake is on, when it is off. The switch is usually located in the area of the parking brake handle or pedal.
If really a VSC or TRAC issue, these systems can store trouble codes. AutoZone may be able to read them for free. These systems are a little complicated and require some service info. Might read the owners manual, the system may have a method to turn it off/on and some kind of reset. The light could be a reset function or something like this. Try searching general TN using TRAC and doing a Google search on both VSC and TRAC. This should give you basic info about how it works and what sensors are in play.

If you have the time and DSL, many of the Toyota models such as Avalon have similar systems. If you can not find a service manual for this car, another model may have data, which can help. TN does have on-line service manuals for many other cars but to my knowledge not this one.

There are 3 lights. VSC, Trac, PBrake. I'll see if I can find the box by the pbrake arm so that should be easy to check.

The VSC or TRAC are not true errors. They come on when backing out of the garage and going up the driveway. No slipage, no sliding, not going very fast. When it warms up I can stop the truck and restart it and both the lights go out and stay out. Is there one sensor someplace that controls this?

The parking brake would have a switch to turn on/off the light. Next time the light goes on, try moving the brake handle around.

The VSC/TRAC system ties in with the ABS. As such each wheel has an RPM sensor that runs to a computer, each wheel brake is applied (or not) based on these RPM inputs, steering wheel sensor, frame angle sensor and I think a few other things. The wheel sensors can get dirt or something on them but this would also cause the ABS to trigger a light (if you have one).

It appears on some (or all) Toyota models any time the MEL trips; the VSC/TRAC system is turned off to save on engine load. Thus it could be a problem other then the actual VSC/TRAC system. Might go to AutoZone and see if any trouble codes are stored.

Does this car have a 6-year/60K mile drive train warranty, if so take it to the dealer. There appears to be a Technical Service Bulletin DL001-05 is titled "Rear Axle Bearing Noise” that applies to '04 to '06 Sequoia. One of the problems also addressed was stated to be intermittent VSC/TRAC light. Have not seen the bulletin so cannot say for sure.

The VSC/TRAC system resets when the engine is turned off. As such perhaps there is a trouble code tripping related to cold starting of the engine. Restarting a warmer engine may not cause a code to be tripped and the VSC/TRAC system thus stays on. Just guessing.

I had this problem once with my 2001 Sequoia, took it to the dealer, and they recalibrated something. Don't have the problem anymore. Maybe you could ask them.

pbrake light on is probably caused by low brake fluid or the float for the fluid level sensor sticking. if the parking brake light is on during driving it will illuminate the vsc & trac lights. check your brake pad levels.

a problem within the vsc/trac systems wont illuminate the parking brake light.

I'm with gree91, had that same problem and the dealer told me the brake fluid was just a little low from fairly worn brake pads.

It is the brake light on your dash right? It is the skid control antilock brake sensor/computer and booster. I had the same exact problem. Toyota Dealer was really good to me. Betwwen toyota and the dealer I paid labor only on one part and 1/2 the labor only on the other part. The parts were real expensive like 1,200 for one and 975.00 for the other. There was a bulletin as toyomoho said which is why toyota and the dealer helped me out. Maybe you could be equally as lucky. Take it to your dealer.

vsc/trac light

Just want to share my recent experience with our '03 Sequoia.
As I started to drive off, the car would make a loud buzzing then clicking sound and then the VSC/TRAC light would come on. For a short moment, it felt like I lost a little power in acceleration as well. As soon as the VSC/TRAC lights came on, the buzzing sound would stop and the car would start to drive normally.

I took it to the dealer and they told me that the ECM (Engine Control Module) was bad. Luckily I had an extended warranty so I only spent $50 deductible on a repair that cost approximately $2,000.

I too own a 2003 Sequoia. I love the truck, but man it has had its problems. One of them being the VSC, VSC TRAC, and ABS lights staying on. I took the truck to the Toyota dealer and was told I need a Yaw Rate Sensor. Diagnostics, parts, and labor totaling close to $700.00. Hope you have better luck than I do!!!!

I have an '04 Sequoia and the PBrake and VSC off and TSC Trac lights come on periodically. Does the '04 have CAN or ISO protocol ? I have found a thread in the 4runner forum that refers to a "zero point calibration" that will eliminate unnecessary and costly repairs. Has anyone tried this?

ABS / VSC / pbrake light in cold weather, briefly

I'm having the same issue, 2009 Corolla S 2/ 64K -- the ABS/ VSC and parking brake lights all say on for the first 15-20 minutes of driving before going off. This started after the vehicle was sitting in cold weather for a week. Now If I pull over, put it in park and sit for awhile it goes off too.

I checked brake fluid, it's fine. Anyone have a suggestion for parts to hang?

Hello i have a 2007 Fj with 66k on it and the other day my wife hit a bump hard on a dirt road and now the darn VSC lights are on ever time we hit 25 mph... was just doing it for a few days when we hit 9 mph not its 25. and come on and stays on
no check engine light and no codes
if you hit the gas hard on a dirt road it will spin wheels ( under 25 ) and this the slip lines show up on dash and cuts power. but after 25 ( and 9 before ) it would not let you ... please help
also what is the MEL trips in the above quote ?

I have an 06 sequoia with 94,000 and have the same issue,

It's only happened two or three times, and goes away next time I shut off the engine and reset it.

Hi.. I am new to this forum.

I have a 2002 sequoia and i just start having a problem.when you go to start off the truck bogs down and the slip indicator light comes on. no other lights come on. And no matter how hard or soft you step on the gas. I hope someone has a answer or a solution for me. Thank you

We have a similar problem with our 2001 Sequoia sr5 4wd, its happening at any speeds sometimes in the neighborhood at 20MPH or at 70MPH on the highway , it seems like one of the front wheels locks, the whole car vibrates and pulls to one side.. we almost lost control of the car coming from Florida, it's happening very often now. My wife stopped driving it because she is scared and very worry about loosing control, we have two kids and I don't want to take any chances.. TOYOTA HAS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. Any suggestions please!

I had this same issue with my 2007 Sequoia. After all codes didn't come up with a definitive sensors problem, I cleaned all wheel sensors and problem solved itself. Actually I took ot through an automatic car wash and paid for the best wash they had which did a super job cleaning the wheels and undercarriage and all lights went off and haven't came back on. Just a thought for you instead of spending tons on sensors all over that probably don't need changing.
Also, all the codes that came up said the brake light switch was bad..it wasn't. If a vehicle is having a sticking brake then looking into that sensor on that wheel and the abs module is a better idea than changing out vehicle stability control modules. The vsc light is always going to come on when there is an issue with any wheel or brake.

Mine did this and it was the coil pack in the #6 cylinder. Had to replace the helicoil as well. Fixed the problem , but befor I figured out the helicoil situation I went thru a few coil packs .
