I have a 2001 Corolla CE, 3 speed auto transmission with 140,000 miles.
Now that it's in the 40's outside I've noticed when I drive 35 miles to work and fill up the fuel tank my engine won't start. If I press the gas pedal it will keep the engine going but it has to be pressed for at least a minute otherwise the engine dies when i stop pressing it. Once my foot is off the gas pedal, if the engine hasn't died it sounds like it's misfiring. The three common factors are warm engine, cold weather and just having filled the gas tank.
Notes:
I haven't had problems starting a cold engine in 40 degree weather. If i start a warm engine in cold weather w/o filling gas tank, it does take a couple extra seconds to start up the engine.
I currently have a CEL P0171. It went away after cleaning the MAF sensor but it's back again.
When I fill up, the gas needle creeps up slowly. Takes at least 2 minutes to reach the top.
The car burns a quart of oil every 200-500 miles depending on my driving habits
I feel like it's bad fuel pressure but I'm a novice. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
