So after a heavy rain I've noticed about 1" of water collected in the rear floorboards, soaking the carpet.

This has happened 4 times so far. 3 times it was drivers side rear and this morning it was passenger side rear.

It's not the AC drain hose, I checked that and the AC was not even on.

I pulled the drain plug from under the car for the rear floorboard and hosed down the car. When I linger around the windshield wipers water started dripping from the rear drain plug but the majority of the water was draining by the front fender as I assume it should be.

So water is somehow traveling to the rear floor boards from the vents by the windshield wipers.

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Anyone had this problem before?

Only thing I know is water can go from passenger front to passenger back easily.. I had this problem after best buy installed my amp.. had to replace tubing to ac drain hose with a longer one and made it go out further drain grommet near where feet are on bottom.
I suggest leaving carpet up and just watching it next big rain. idk

Is there any rubber around these vents? Have you checked the rubber/seals around the front windshield by the door, or even the rubber around the window glass on the doors behind the driver and front seat passenger?

Is it a sunroof car? If so, maybe it could be a sunroof drain that's not draining properly. I notice this with my Corolla (with sunroof). If it's parked outside in a long hard rain, sometime my rear seat right side floor area will be wet.

This is a common problem with 9th gen Corolla, with or without sunroof.... With all windows shut and vent fan at maximum speed (NOT on recirculate), find the leak(s) by feel from outside all along windshield seal, roof tracks that run from front to rear, rear window seal, door and door window seals, etc. You can also apply some soapy water and look for bubbles being blown.

Yesterday, another heavy rain was here. I went out for a check. The carpet was wet again. This time, I found trace of water. It came from Roof Side Garnish Inner RH. I suspect the rear door weatherstrip or the rear door opening trim weatherstrip is the problem. The trim weatherstrip is loose. I can even pull down the weatherstrip with the trim easily and see the metal body. I want to try some sealant (or adhesive?) first.

Update: Bough some weatherstrip adhesive from AAP. Another rain is coming tonight, will see the result tomorrow.

Update:
I found the cause: the corresponding drain tube of the sunroof is blocked. It would take me some more work to make it possible to use an air blower, but it seems that I can pull it out. Is it OK to pull the tube out and then put it back in through the same hole on the body?

Update: Problem fixed, a very simple 0 dollar fix.
Today, just by curiosity, I pulled out the rubber grommet at the tube exit. To my surprise, a lot of water came out. I removed the large carpet inside the trunk and pulled up the right rear corner cover and found the trouble: The plastic tube is too long (design problem or just a single case?) and it has to be forced to a sharp angle to meet the exit rubber grommet. The sharp turn is so crushed that it eventually stopped all the water flowing. Right now I just pulled out the grommet a little so the sharp turn is not so crushed. I'll go to ACE hardware store some day to find some curved tubes to fix that.

Yes I have the same problem. I cut the tube length a bit shorter and stuck it back in the grommet which exits the car and will now wait to see if the Passenger rear floorboard carpet gets wet again

If it works I love the $0.00 fix.

Thanks to all in this post. :thanks:

Having the same problem with my 2018 corolla. The rear floorboards get soaked. No sunroof in my case. So basically you guys are saying that if I pull the carpet in my trunk, there should be a drainage hose and that may be clogged or too long?

Unfortunately, there is no drain hose unless you have the sunroof option. Use a feeler gauge and go around the trunk weatherstrip to see if you have any gaps in the seal.

What part of the trunk floor board is actually getting soaked?

Also, consider the rear windshield seal as a possible culprit.

Nothing in the trunk is getting wet. The rear floorboards get soaked and nothing else. Front ones are dry, seats stay dry, headliner, doors, everything but the floorboards are dry. I've pulled the seats, lifted the carpet, and checked the drainage plugs and everything seems fine. Took this issue to my local Toyota dealership and they didn't have a solution for it.

I didn't read that part. My apologies.

Smoke machine can help find the source.

update: still can't find the source of the leak. tried a smoke machine, soapy water, even sat in the damn car during a heavy rain. I cannot pinpoint it. Contacted toyota corporate and they don't even have an answer for me!

I have the same issue on the 2018 Camry. It does not have a sunroof. Only rear driver and passenger floorboards get wet, and it appears when it rains. Is there a solution?
Morg423, have you discovered where the water leaks from?
