Hello...

I have a water leak on the driver's side only in a 1991 Toyota PU Xtra Cab 2WD. (Carpet on the passenger side and behind both seats is dry.)

Checked under dash -- feels dry.

Ran water through grill near driver's side windshield wiper and couldn't find any leak.

Checked drain on driver's side fender near door -- clear and draining properly.

Windshield seal looks fine, too.

Pulled off fuse box cover -- there has been dampness there but might have been because of wet carpet.

Are there any other drains I can check to see if they are clear or are there any other areas I can test to see if I can find the leak?

Any ideas, suggestions, solutions very much appreciated! Thanks!

Your steering shaft goes through the firewall right at under the dash! Check there. Also, the bolts on the seat go completely through the floor and you can see them looking up under the truck, could water be seeping in there?

Water Leak

So did you ever find the source of the leak? I am having the same problem and can not find the cause. Its definately coming in near the drivers side and I can see a small trickle coming next to the fuse box. I'm starting to wonder if the seams might have a small crack where the firewall meets up to the body.

You mentioned a drain on the drivers side - where would this drain be located?

I haven't located the source of the leak.

I've checked around the heater and all is dry.

Windshield looks tightly sealed. No dampness under dashboard. Rubber seal around steering wheel shaft is dry.

Tested fresh air vent by pouring water through -- drains properly.

Water pools in floorboard groove near fusebox. No rust is apparent in the footwell. No water seems to be seeping from seat bolts.

Suspect broken seal in firewall but unable to confirm for sure.

Podracer169: Driver's side drain is where fender and door meet at bottom and can fill with leaves and dirt if not cleared. Open driver's side door and look through the crack and you'll see the inside of the fender where the drain is. l Don't know of any other drains to check.

I believe I have solved this exact same problem on my '89. With the door open I flushed out the inside fender area using a high pressure nozzle attached to a garden hose. There was a bunch of grit up in there.

I also removed the fresh air grill at the base of the windshield and flushed out the area that goes down into the fender.

So far so good, the carpet area has stayed dry after several rainy days.

I ended up fixing my leak a few weeks ago. Had to remove the fender to access the leak. Turns out the leak was coming from the point where the cowl, firewall and side body panel all came togther. There are a lot of body seams there. Over time these seams were opening up and allowing water to drip in. I got a polyeurathene seam sealer from a boating company (Sikaflex) and sealed each of the seams (this stuff is nasty goopy stuff). I let it dry for 10 days and the interior has been dry since- been through a few weeks of nast rain storms.
