Please I need some help

last year I bought a Toyota avensis, second hand car still in warranty period, only34000 km , after only one year of use,a sensor on the board started to light, Iwent to a toyota service and they told me that is a big problem with my catalytic exhaustion pipe, need to change it.Is it normal for a toyota car with50000 km to have this kind of problem? I know many cars with many many km on the board with no problems, please give me a suggestion what to do!

If it is still under warranty you should be able to get it fixed for free. ...not sure how that stuff korks in Romania tho.

I had the same issue with the primary cat on my tC (same thing as the Avensis sept its a coupe)

If you have a 2001 till 2005 1.6 or 1.8 VVT-i you may have a bigger problems. Those cars had the first series of ZZ engines produced in the UK. Due to a wrong size pistonrings these engines use an excessive amount of oil. This oil will be burned in the engine and end up ruin the cat. There was a recall to replace the bottomend of the engine (as it was cheaper then replace the rings, that would involve dissamble the whole bottomhalf of the engine). So check if that has been done by either the sevice history of the engine of your dealer as they can see the difference as Toyota was smart enough to use a different oildip-stick between the faulty and good bottomhalf. If not, then you have a problem. The recall is closed thus no more repairs are done for free. Toyota deaers can offer to do the repair against labour cost, giving the bottomhalf of the engine for no charge as (as in 2010) they can become them at no cost from Toyota Europe. But you have to put up a fight for that.

What you say is accurate as far as it goes except the oil issues are not inevitable, it is perfectly possible to have an 01-05 Avensis on it's original engine that uses very little oil at all. Also a lot of oil issues are wrongly blamed on the 'vvti's oil problems' when it often turns out to be weeping oil fron behind the timing cover and around the chain tensioner.
Then again the vvti oil issue which has taken on the status of urban myth is like all myths based in truth. Low tension/low friction oil rings, inadequate and too few oil drain holes in the pistons and only a 3.7 litre oil capacity all gang up to make it prone to oil issues if isn't regularly changed.
