thats my car...lol..its a tom's intake....strictly cosmetic..either you hate it or love it...i love it...my friends call it the bird catcher....
Is it for more air intake? or as you said fullycosmetic? I think it looks quality. Where and how much fitted?
Can be made to be ram air but sorta screws up underhood airflow.
could you pipe that strait into your intake filter? or even to flow over a top mount intercooler? (for future planning on going to a 3sgte) hehe
i have noticed my filter picks up a lot of road grime and stuff as i relocated it down to the metal grating area, i also have to clean it more often as a result, but the sound is great .^_~. currently 91NA 5sfe
???

Actually I believe that is MRQ Turbo's car.... but that intake that u are talking about is called the tom's scoop... there are around 125.00 plus shipping per side. You can find them anywhere...... ebay has them, and even spoilers.com whech is wings west co. Plus there are many different variations of this scoop... from a standard kind that u see in MRQ's pic, to more narrow looking styles. Although it is argued that this does and does not actually give any performance to the car. It is one of those love or hate items. And I believe that it was designed originally with the N/A in mind... I think there might be some positive gain from this.
i mean logically, i cant see why it would not provide a gain, its an air scoop such as ones on like the lambo, they lift up at a certian speed. then again, i was looking though, cant find them on some super cars, zonda etc. but it would reduce top speed, maybe that has something to do with it?
i used to hate them, but the more i see them, the more i want to put them on my car. hehe :)
yip

Thats kinda how it works... either that or u like em' and you grow to hate them
personally I don't like them, but to each his own

they do provide air to the filter, but it doesn't do anything that the side vent doesn't already do in my opinion.

It looks good on some 2's and cluttered on others.

as noted previously the additional air scoopes actually completely disrupt the underhood airflow. originall air was designed to flow from underneath the chassis up through the bay and out the hood venting, trying to force air in from the top negates this design.
Actually, I think the airflow was designed to come thru the side vents and out the top engine hood. My 2 has plastic panels beneath the engine bay. Actually, plastic panels the whole length of the underside of the car. I have scoops on both the left and right side. Though I don't see any cooling benefits, I have had no overheating issues. They are stricktly cosmetic as earlier stated.
it provides gain to airlfow to the intake or intercooler depending on the side.

it does interupt the normal flow thru the engine bay.

it does affect your overall aerodynamics at high speeds.

what you need to find out is how much and is it worth it.

alot of people do it for the look and that alone if worth it.

i got one... set up "ram air" style to the intake... i noticed a difference and i like the look.
I have the drivers and passengers scoops on my car. To me they are all about looks. I got mine about three years ago on ebay. Alot of people ask me about them. Some like it some don't . To me I like it because it different.

And Thats the main thing. it has to be YOUR DECISION. we can tell you pros and cons till our mouths bleed. but if they made all the power in the world, and you don't like 'em? theres no point to putting them on. My opinion? i think they look nice..... don't really work on My Eclipse GS-T though

:eek:ff-Topic: ILoveMyMR2, is that your MR2 above this post? if so please don't tell me that a Wing on the Hood.....:disappoin

Better him putting it on the front and it being usefull than you putting on on the back.LOL
Lol really? Useful would be putting DF on the Drive Tires not the Steering tires nice try though:lol:
down force on thye steering tires would be useful I would think.. Instead of on the back of yours lifting the front drive and steer tires but it's ok i know we all can't drive RWD.LOL
