I have the opportunity to purchase a 2006 Matrix, 61000km, it has been used to tow a camper trailer. I was told that a cooler towing package was added to the car. What should I be concerned about in considering buying this car?

Mikered30 said what I was going to and his assumption on the use of a cooler IS to save the tranny from over-heating.

Eagle,
Unless you can locate the previous owner and get some background info on his towing habits, etc. I would steer clear of this one.

I have an '04 Matrix and you'll never see me towing anything with it as I don't think they are strong enough. That's JMHO though.

I have an'02 Tahoe that does all my towing needs. (21' travel trailer)

To answer your heading question: Towing adds more strain to the engine creating more fuel consumption and oil use.

Like was mentioned already, the biggest wear point is the tranny.

IF you DO buy this vehicle and tow with it, be acutely aware of the fact it is extremely easy to overload and cause the front drive wheels to rise, creating much lesser road traction and steering.

Hmmm, the edit button didn't show before. Perhaps I was too hasty.
