Hello everyone. I'm interested in replacing the radio with an aftermarket radio. I noticed that the stock radio has functions to control the car, and even seems to read into the car's information such as miles per gallon.

If I replace the radio what would happen to functions such as "door lock settings"? Would my door lock settings remain what they were before they were last programmed? Are there aftermarket radios that support the same functions that the stock radio is providing such as being able to read the miles per gallon, and control the door locks?

Thanks for any help on this.

@TimelessIzaya : Usually with all aftermarket head units, there needs to be a control module (replacement brain) that is attached to tell the car that the head unit is still present. This module is used to communicate with the car's ECM to get all the data from ECM like mpg, tpms, etc. It also allows retaining factory features like Steering Wheel controls, Serius XM, etc.

Mary Shelly, if she were still alive, would give you and answer based on her famous novel. You can't remove part of the brains and expect all to function the same way. Well, if you find a stereo that is exactly compatible with your car, everything might work after the main computer and stereo make friends with each other.

I'm using these on my 2017 LE with all features working. It has CarPlay and Android Auto (both wireless). I know it's low-priced Chinese stuff, but as it was given to me for free, it's fun !!

I put a higher end Alpine Headunit in my Camry and while Lost a few of the stock functions like you mention, it still has enough to keep me happy. I am not sure if the adapter harness which you might have has those functions. There is so much to learn about these adapter and headunits for aftermarket. I guess the only way to find out is through the pro and makers of the headunits and harnesses. I also have found that those supposedly professional installers (themselves) are not all as good as they say they are. If the headunit sellers and support cannot answer these questions, or even on youtube videos, then we have to rely on the info we find from those that have them installed before us.
