Hello again. ive noticed the other day, while on the freeway that i was going 75 and getting passed like i was standing still. this prompted me to look at the tire placard to see if my speedo was off or if my tires were wrong. the results suggest that 2650x10.50x15 front and 3000x10.50x15 rear should go where my 235/75r15s are. (thanks previous owner) now upon looking ive seen that these sizes no longer exist. so on to 31x10.50x15. the problem is i cant afford too much but i also cant really see constantly having an incorrect speedo and throwing off the odometer as well. this brings me to what brand of tire will do me good without draining my wallet. I have been looking at general grabber at2. also they have some sort of kumho on tire rack that looks about comprable. they are both about $100 each. which is about all i really want to spend unless there is something out there that is waaaay more awesome for only a little more. So what do you think?

The PO likely was trying to get some fuel economy, and be cheap on his future tire purchases also. A 10.5" tire is going to hurt your economy compared to 75 series width. I don't understand why it's recommending two different sizes front to rear either. That's odd. <shrug>

I dont understand why your truck would have two different tire sizes on the placard. If it is a 4wd then two different sizes front to rear can trash a transfer case. Lets look at the difference in speed between your current tires and 31's, we'll say that you are cruising at 1500 RPM's in 5th gear.

(All of this info is based on my truck which came factory with 225/75-15's but now has 31's from PO. I dont know anything about your vehicle, so I am assuming it is the same exact truck as mine, but came factory with 31's.)

With original 31's : you would be traveling at 79.42 MPH
with current tires : you are actually only going 73.99 MPH

That is only a 5 MPH difference at that speed. Actually the current tires are under spinning your odometer, meaning your truck has less miles than what it actually says you have. Where as mine has more miles than it says.

Anyhow, if you are looking at getting the best economy and such try to find tires that are not too aggressive. That extra rubber adds on rotation weight.

You may be able to find some less expensive tires in this size: 265/75-15 which are only a fraction of an inch smaller that 31's. Depending on your area you may be able to find these cheaper than 31's.

Just a thought :)

thanks for the info. i did know about the odometer thing. i hope that this doesnt diminish my "street cred" with the 200k plus crowd. I did the math once and if they were like that since around 30k miles (about when i figured the guy would replace the first set) i would be about 26,000 miles off meaning my 268000 would only be 242000 or so. as for the tire placard, when i saw it i was perplexed as well considering it was a 4wd and those tire sizes dont seem real. i know the gas mileage will be poor as well but come on everyone who has a 4x4 wants big tires. also there arent a whole lot of tires in the 265 75 15 range they are also about as expensive so i am back to my original question. how are the at2s? oh and finally that flag should have been an american one i must have hit the wrong icon and i have a 3.o 4x4 extended cab. w/ 5 spd.
